Chips: 6,240 | | | Edge stripes..How close.. is close enough for you We've been working hard on a system to line up the edgestripes to the face of the chip- getting a perfect perfect match iS achievable- but with a large waste factor assuming the ones that dont line up perfectly are not wanted. We are wondering your opinion-- as to just HOW close-- is close enough for you- or is a chip thats NOT perfectly lined up not worth it and unacceptable.
If you were spending your hard earned money and additional expense for having edge stripes line up- must they ALL be PERFECT? Or is, say, 1/16-1/32 of an inch off acceptable? THis would be the maximum variation in the stripes not matching perfectly.
We ran some tests today for a customer and are waiting his permission to post the images- assuming we have his permission we will have pics of edge stripes lining up dead on, and a few slightly off.
I know many wanted this done on the current " B" chip group buy, and some did line up-- were just trying to figure out if its worth the time and effort and additional expense to achieve this in the future.
So... how close-- is close enough... for YOU??

It would be nice and I might would pay a couple cents extra per chip for them to line up, but I am still very interested in ordering either way.

Chips: 165 | | | Re: Edge stripes..How close.. is close enough for you my opinion- if they are not going to line up perfect, make them off completely. so that they are spaced between the spots on the top. This way it doesn't look like it was an attempt to get them close that failed, and will not look like a mistake. perfect aligment would be fantastic, but obviously not achievable. |

either they're dead on, or they're random...in-between is a waste of time/cash. |

I have custom Chipco’s that already line up very close, certainly within 1/16”. But the “stagger” (I like that term tastic) is still quite noticeable.
Unless you could do them absolutely “spot on” (pun intended), I don’t think there is any point. |

Chips: 122 | | | Re: Edge stripes..How close.. is close enough for you I agree with the above posts. Having them close to lining up just looks like a missed attempt. All line up dead on or random would be the best. I personally would pay a bit extra for the spots to line up, but I would not want to hold this GB up, that may be something I should have done on a personal set.
Off the subject question, but is the June 1st date for US samples as mentioned on the web site still correct? |

Perfect alignment would be great, but probably not worth the time and effort necessary, or the cost for the matter.
In the process, I assume the rollign edge is applied first, then the chip face is applied over that? Id so, you are looking at aligning BOTH SIDES of the chip to make it work. That's a lot to ask and I imagine it would create a ton of waste...
Hell, why don't we just label Nexgens if that's what we're looking at...

Chips: 516 | | | Re: Edge stripes..How close.. is close enough for you Either all or none is my opinion. I'm more concerned with the center alignment of the face of the chip. Now if that is off, I will not spend my hard earned money. That is just a problem I've noticed with the sample ceramics I have. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
