Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

Ok Kids,

So I'm in the process of doing a ton of research on custom chip manufacturers. I'm going to get a set of 650 customs. It'll be a cash set, $0.25, $1, $5 & $25. This should cover me on games with buy-in's ranging from $25 to $100 or even more.

I've decided to go with Ceramic's. Clays are nice but I like ceramics just as much and actually prefer the full face graphic capabilities. I've got samples from ChipCo, BR Pro & NJ's. I have over 15 samples from each. I obviously like the ChipCo's best and am willing to pay the additional cost.

My question for other custom ceramic buyers is this:

I want my graphics to be aligned together on both sides like a coin. I know BR Pro's will not do this. I've heard that ChipCo's through homepokerchips will not as well. Can anyone verify this for me and if this is the case do I have any option? Can I pay extra to guarantee that I will have a proper alignment? Is there a ChipCo custom distributor that will do this? If not, I guess I'll just have to deal with it. I just want to make sure that I am thourough and getting exactly what I want. I'm an anal retentive perfectionist.

Thanks to all of those who can help.

Heh, if you think that bothers you (no one I know of will do this, btw) wait until you see chips that are designed with fake edgespotting and the rolling edge isn't aligned. That's far worse, IMHO.

Re: Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

I just got a new set of cermaics for ChipCo through HomePokerChips and can tell you they are not aligned on the front and back nor are the edge spots aligned.

With that said, I say it's no big deal. I'm as picky and stubborn as the next guy but honestly, it doesn't make a difference at all. They still play the same and they still look awesome.

Re: Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

I have to agree with the posters above. Most clay chips aren't alligned front to back and it really doesn't matter. Think of it this way - when was the last time you looked at the front and back of the same chip at the same time?

However, the fact that the edge spots aren't lined up with the face of the chips IS important, IMO. The design should deliberately avoid the appearance that the edge spots are supposed to line up with the face. If you look at my chipcos (and VAR's and several others), the design has no radial elements at the edge. To me, this is the fatal flaw in all the chipco WSOP replicas.

Re: Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

Good Info to know,

I wouldn't say that it bothers me much. Ok, Maybe it does a little. Especially when I have a sample set of ChipCo Classics, Vineyards & Egyptians and they are all aligned perfectly.... The way I look at it, If they can be aligned right...My set should be too. It's all good though.

I'm not going with edgespots patterns on the borders of the face my chips. I want to make sure that I avoid the problem you mentioned of misaligned edgespots and face(spots?).

By the way, JD & Var.. I love your chips. The chess & wine designwork is just beautiful. I love the colors too. A big reason I'm going with Ceramics is because of the beauty of your chips. Not to mention I've always just liked Ceramics.

My design will be (very) loosely based on an old Luxor $5 chip from the early 90's. I posted a photo of that chip on another thread.

Thanks again guys,

-Farm

Re: Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

King, you raise a good point.
If the Classics, Vineyards and Egyptians are alligned, thats proof it can be done. There might be extra costs involved, i dont know.

Edgespots not being aligned with design elements on the face of the chip, is an issue that would stop me from having a custom set made. It would mean the chips are 99% complete and i would never be satisfied. Why should i settle for anything less?

Re: Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

Every Chipco I own is perfectly "coin aligned". I presume both faces are printed in the same process so they will automatically align like this.

Maybe they changed this recently, though.

You not find any differences between Chipco distributors. Either they all will align the faces, or none of them will. The production process decides.

Nevada Jack chips are, as far as I remember, "medal aligned".

Re: Custom chip alignment, Question for the masses.

All the Chipcos I own also have the chip faces aligned "like a coin" too ... you won't have a problem there. It's good that you've already decided not to try and carry over any design elements from the chip face to the rolling edge ... every custom ceramic should be done like that ... the edge marking independent from the chip face elements.

Nevada Jacks does coin aligned. You just have to request it. It is a .05 charge for different image on each side.

Mine too. I didn't even notice. This shows how ittle difference it makes (to me).
