Need some help

Hello all;

Ok I am not an artist at all. I have been able to put together some inlays for a set of chips I would hope to get in the near future and I am asking for help with the chip body I am looking at ceramics for these particualr chips

As you can see I am horrible at the chip body the inlay may use some work but I have become comfortable with the way its coming and I know I can tweek it a little more myself as well I have had a couple of other ideas as well.

What I have done is taken the three mobsters and separated them the short guy is on the 25, 100, and 500, the middle is on 1K, 5K and 10K and the big guy on big denoms any help with an outer body for these inlays would be greatly appreciated.

I think those look good, you're on the right track. What do you feel like you need help on?

Re: Need some help

More on the outer ring (chip body) I have been trying to get a little insert shape in the colored area on a couple of my disasters and I can't get it to work at all. I want to add just a little more "spice" per se to the body to give it more of a ceramic look, or my other approach was to try and imitate edge spots such as a clay chip but I am not sure how that would look. As I said I am not an artist so in some ways I feel like a blind squirrel looking for the nut.

The one question I do have is when I am making the layer with the other colors (edge spots) how are you guys getting the slanted style edges on some of the marks on the ring? I have looked at the transform---> scale and I can't find a way to take the rectangle and make it a trapazoid shape? That is probably my biggest problem in getting this done.

Re: Need some help

I think you need to make the outer portion of the chip wider, the graphics(which I really like by the way) all have a white background and would still look nice and be able to be easily read if they were smaller and the outer rim was about twice as wide. That would give you more area to insert a shape on the outer edge also, and add more color to the chip face instead of it being predominantly white. I think from a short distance with all the white on the inlay it would be pretty hard to try to calculate the size of the pot, more color would make it easier to estimate the size of the pot without having to let your opponents know that's what you are doing. I like a little more color myself for that reason and a smaller inlay. So this is just my opinion.

Shout out from Springfield at ya Bro'

BPT

Re: Need some help

I suggest you make the name of the establishment "Niantic Poker Club" black. I th ink the name is too flashy against the background. The denomination, though, could very well be red.

I agree that the edge of the face should be wider to make each chip more distinctive.

To make a ceramic chip imitate a clay chip is not always the best way to use the graphic qualities of a ceramic chip.

If you have "Niantic Poker Club" on the chip, I don't think you need "NPC" on it as well.

Re: Need some help

Hey BPT how's it going ?

Yeah those are my thoughts exactly but I keep having issues getting things striaght and lined up and at least looking correct. I just don't have that steady art hand at all. I am trying to tweek a few things and I have a couple of different styles that I want to try and hopefully get some good input on. I hope to have the evening free tonight so I can really get some things put together.

Transform > Perspective will make a trapezoid.

If you make a rectangle for an edge spot in a new layer, go to Select All. Choose the move tool (top right of tool box). In the top tool bar, you'll see a series of different shaped rectangles. Those are for aligning your layer in the center (or justified right or left) of the canvas. Each layer can be aligned. Do both vertical align center and horizontal align center to get your inlay in the middle of your canvas.

Also, when making multiple edgespots, one thing you can do is say, make a rectangle (in a new layer) and use the vertical align to put it at 12 o'clock on your chip body. Duplicate the layer. Then drag the new edgespot to 6 o'clock on your chip body. Link the edgespot layers, then merge linked. Duplicate layer. On the new layer, do edit > transform > rotate. It makes two new edgespots, and by duplicating the layer, the new edgespots are already aligned, they just need to be rotated into place.
[Duplicate layer and merge linked commands can be found in the layers palette]
