Chips: 294 | | | edgespot progression problem Let's forget the colors and inlays.
You have 8 chips (ASM) --> $0.25, $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $1000, $5000.
$0.25 -> edgespot 214
:
$5000 -> edgespot 4D14
I'm looking for the nicest edgespot progression here.
Any recommendations for $1 to $1000? |

Chips: 3,047 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem I would either go simple to complex like
214, 314, 414, 312, 412, 614, 3d14, 4d14
or alternating
214, 212, 314, 312, 414, 412, 3d14, 4d14 |

Chips: 1,925 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem I'm ordering the whole set and this is what I'm going with. 1/4 inch spots for low denoms and double and 1/2 inches for the higher ones:
Cash:
.05 - solid
.25 - 214
1 - 4a14
5 - 6a14
20 - 212
tourney:
25 - 312
100 - 3d14
500 - 4a12
2000 - 4d14
Do I win? |

Chips: 294 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem How about this one?
I might later add Brown or Orange $10k chip -> 4D14
Oops, Grey chip should be 214 not 212..

Chips: 1,816 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem i've been racking my brain trying to figure out a good progression for my custom clays. i also have been trying to figure out how to do this using a different edgespot for each denom. it's been driving me nuts. but then i thought to myelf, "who am i trying to impress with this progression and variety?" is anyone at home games (except yeltzen) going to look at these and say "wow, nice progression?". NO. are they even going to realize that my $5 is a 3X2 and my $25 and $100 are both 4X1? NO. are any of them helping pay for them? NO. so i decided to say heck with it, i'm just going to pick the colors and spots that i think look best and not worry about progression or wether or not i'm using the same edge configuration more than once.
(until, of course, i go to place the order and change my whole set-up!) |

Chips: 1,925 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem One thing to realise too is that your cash set will most likely never be on the same table as your tourney set - so it's pointless to try to have one big progression unless you're selling the chips or something.
You will know where your cash set ends and your tourney set starts. Just make 2 progressions, otherwise you end up with all the boring chips on your cash table. (like in 21 Chips' example)
Here's a sample cash / tourney progression. Most people will only need 4 denoms of each set (5c and T5000 chips are useless for most people) and in that case I'd drop the 314 from the cash set and the 212 from the tourney set.

Chips: 1,700 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem FWIW I went all over the map with my cash set:
214 - 3D14 - 6A14 - 4A14- 4D14
While the historical precedent is obvious and works for a lot of folk, imo too many people do standard colors with the usual simple to complex progression. At one point I thought about making my biggest chip ($100) the simples since I rarely actually use it. My $5 is the workhorse and the most visually complex. |

Chips: 1,142 | | | Re: edgespot progression problem This is where i dont get most of you guys. Why would you save the best spots for the last (the ones that will most likely not be used very often). I suggest you move backwards from most complex to least. I see all these beautiful color combo and edgespots reserved for denoms that will see the felt once in a blue moon. The $5 and $1 are the most important chips for any homegame set and i think that is where the money and time should be spent to come up wih a good combo |
