Chips: 12,764 | | | Do you feel comfortable posting mock-ups on Chiptalk? Given recent events and the various ongoing debates, I thought I would just do an informal poll to try and gage the longterm impact of what has happened.
Would you feel comfortable posting mock-ups of your own custom chip designs and allowing other Chiptalk members to have full access to them?

Chips: 55 | | | Re: Do you feel comfortable posting mock-ups on Chiptalk? I voted the second yes. But I think I've come to the conclusion that I don't take chips as seriously as some. Would I want my design copied? No. Would I let someone copy it if they asked? I would probably ask them to make at least a small change, but it isn't the end of my world if my design get's ripped off. I would probably let people know about it and hope for some negative reps or something since it is rude to copy a design without asking, but all in all, it isn't really going to affect me at all. We are talking about home chips. It's upsetting, but I guess I just wouldn't get THAT hung up about it.
Of course if someone copies it and starts selling them or mass producing my design, I would definitely be pissed, and could understand litigation. |

I can't think of a higher honor than someone wanting my chip inlay.

I'd have to go with the whole if someone didn't profit on my design then that's great, and I would be honored if they chose to copy mine. Plus, if we can't post our mockups and our high quality pictures here where the hell else are we gonna go to show off our chips. Isn't that what this place is all about??

I don't have a problem per se with CT members having access to them, as I still would expect CT members to treat me with respect. I wouldn't mind someone say, using my chip colors/edgespot mockups solely for the purposes of evaluating their inlay (not that big of a deal now that we have the factory). If someone wanted to use my actual chips, I'd expect them to ask. Which I would then say yes most likely.
I'm less comfortable with the various businesses that haunt but don't post much, like those Florida guys. They can grab an inlay/design hoping no one here would come across it and recognize it, then use it to advertise or sell.

Chips: 824 | | | Re: Do you feel comfortable posting mock-ups on Chiptalk? Never occurred to me before this debacle exploded over the forum. I would post but would be concerned that someone had access. I 'borrow' from the web alot, but the fine line is that I TRY to attribute sources where possible.
But then with the music file download example, it just shows that with easy access people's morals go out the window.
If I was the designer of the Samourais I would be steaming.
Since I wasn't its just a kneejerk reaction right now. |

I would post without hesitation and with no worries; this site is full of great members and if anyone actually liked what I posted I have no doubt that they would contact me before using it. And if someone made samples of my design without my permission, frankly I do not care.....in my mind it is a public forum and the whole point is to share within the community.
