Check the help on text -> fit to shape or curved line or something like that. I spent a couple hours trying to do this a while back and eventually gave up, but I'm sure it can be done somehow. |

Erasing the backround works for me.
That said, I'd love to know how to do it in Paint Shop - I've spent hours trying to get it to work to no avail. |

I'm messing around with a design because I think I want to do my own set of Nexgens or something like that. Right now it's basically a ripoff of a design set I saw at homepokerchips I think. Anyway, to your question. To do the arc text, you first need to put the arc in there! So draw a circle. Then go to the text tool, make sure you're on the layer where the circle is. When you mouse over the circle, the text tool should change from an A to an A with a little arc.
The text placement defaults to the outside top of the arc. Which is bad when you want text inside the circle. There are multiple ways to handle it, but some are kind of confusing and I don't know how they work exactly. I did it with the kerning and leading settings. Leading will move the text up and down from the arc. For this, I have a leading setting of 20. Kerning spreads out the letters along the arc, so you can mess with this until you like it.
One thing I haven't figured out how to do is get something along the bottom of the circle. I can never get the text going the right way. I've tried flipping it, but it always ends up either upside down or reversed. Any help there would be greatly appreciated because in my design I'd like to have an "Established..." text on the bottom of the chip. |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Re: paint shop pro question,,,, Thanks, although like I said, it's far from an original design. I took one of the samples I liked and tweaked it as far as colors and the size of the color field.
OK, I got the text to work:
I'm also using PSP 7. I know 8 or maybe even 9 is out, but I have no idea what they can do over 7.
To do the Est. 2005 text, I had to create a new layer and draw a new circle. It will help to hide the first circle's layer. Then you put in the new text. It will go to the top, just as before. You have to select it with the vector grabbing tool and if you drag down on the top center node, it will invert the text. Now, when you let go, it will jump to the bottom outside of the chip. If your leading is too big, it might disappear from your box. If you use a really big canvas, it shouldn't be a problem though. Then you just got in and make the Leading for this text a negative number. A -5 setting worked for me in this case. The text will be reversed. Just select it, go to Image -> Mirror and there you go!
The leading really seems to be the easiest way at least that I've found to get the text where you want it on the arc. You HAVE to do this on separate layers though! If you do it in one, when you go to do the mirror, it will also flip your text at the top making it reverse.
Hope this helps! |
