Chips: 177 | | Starting my quest...Opinions please. (new design added) OK, so I’m starting my quest! This is your typical, “need opinion on chip design” I will eventually get a cash/SnG set and I’m probably getting ceramics for the flexibility. (Leaning towards Br Pros maybe NJs at this time.) Below is my first crack at a design. They are not much but for background I used the following points as inspiration/guidelines: - Bud Jones kinda style like the Borgota
- WSOP 2005 designs
- Old Casino Chips
- Wanted a classy/classic look
- My nickname is “Ike” and I have “Ike’s Place” on my home bar. Seems appropriate. Note: this is a temporary inlay. I just threw this in here just to get a feel.
- Eventually, I will place a favorite saying and/or a logo but for now, I’m concentrating on the overall look and color scheme.
I’m sure it will evolve based on suggestions. If curious, I actually created the image in Visio and then used Photoshop to turn it into a jpeg. By no means am I a Photoshop guru. I won’t even attempt to make an image the actual size of the chip. LOL I’m sure the artist at the vendor will take care of that for me. Note: my demons I put in 3 different colors because I needed to see which one will look ok. So, here you go and let me know what you think? Opinions and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks for the help UPDATE: Trying to keep all work in one thread. Added new image on 030906. Scroll Down please. UPDATE: Same thing. Keeping all of the work in one thread. I added a new design 031606. scroll down. Comments welcomed!

Great first run at this, I really like the color schemes and edgespots.
Not sold on a $2 chip to be honest though. not because it's not a good looking chip. I just really enjoy having plenty of chips to shuffle and splash and so do the guys I play with. I realize a $1/2 game seems to fit into this Denom setup, but just putting up one chip to limp is boring IMHO. And what happens if your stakes go up? hmmmm...I am torn..
Maybe putting up two chips (even just to call) gives the bet just a little more importance. I know this is a small thing and maybe all your friends already use this setup and are used to it so it won't seem odd to them. Seems like you'll need to have a ton of $2 chips, but still need to buy plenty $1 chips to make your small blinds work.
I just got my 1000 BR chips So I'll definitely give the BR Pros' a vote for your first choice.
I got...
400 $1's,
300 $5's,
200 $25's,
100 $100's. All my racks are full and even which I like
Since I play $1/2 NL...
A "perfect" Buy-in set up for me equals 40 Chips.. $200 (20) $1's, (16) $5's and (4) $25's which I can pre-count and have ready to go, so with this break down, I can buy in exactly 20 guys, each with 40 chips and have $13K left in $25's and $100's (okay, maybe that's overkill) but the stakes for my game quickly jumped from .25/.50 to $1/2 and I am anticipating another jump to $2/4 or $3/6 here soon. It's pretty much a $1/$8 game now, because you have to raise at least $8 to even push the blinds out. and I've had guys get called down by 3 players with $20 raises. It's a loose game so I always give fair warning to new guys. but I digress...
I am curious what qty's for each chip are you going to buy with the $2 Chip involved? I guess as I write this I can see the logic, but as a purist, most casinos don't bother with $2 chips so I still have to ask, although I have to admit that pink is a nice looking chip.
Lastly, since I know your local, you're welcome to come over and "test drive" the BR Pro's. I have ChipCo's too, so you'll have a good comparison.

I will make my way to your game eventually to check out your sets.
On the $2 chips. I do love the look and color. After playing with $2 chips in a side game like mine, I really like using the $2 chip. It's preference really but also practical in my game which is what sold me on it. Here's my original thread when I first started to get the breakdown: http://chiptalk.net/forum/chip-break...t-up-help.html you can read this as background.
I'm looking for a modest 500ct set to support PL cash game and be flexable for a SnG type tournament. In my games $1, $2, $5, and $25 would and do get used. Not the $100's (not that I have any now and besides, it's not like we play with A-Rod LOL) but those would be reserved for a SnG. |

Just got one thought for you, the yellow with $100 chip, have you thought about any other colors for that? Maybe a purple, or blueish color, or a triple stripe (3 different colors) that might compliment the pink $2, and the the others.
Also I think the color gradient takes away from the edgespot designs, I might go with a greyscale gradient, or possible a solid color background.
Just some quick thoughts...
Overall though...I think its a terrific start!!!! |

Chips: 177 | | Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please. Capt...Thanks for the comments. On the $100, I did think about purple, blueish, and even pink. After reading your comments, I see now how the yellow doesn't flow. In comparison, the $25 has the pink from the $2 and the white from the $5. Now, I did not think of "trip" colors. That's an idea! But, I don't know which ones. Maybe pink white pink with the strips butted up together? What would you suggest? I see what you mean on the gradient (I'm assuming you are talking about the inlay area) Like I've mentioned, that was just me throwing something in there w/ the logo area. I have a friend who is a graphic guy. I'm going to have him come up with something that would incorporate something much better. I'll make some changes soon and post another draft soon as I get the opportunity. |

Chips: 126 | | | Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please. if you're doing ceramics, I really hate when the face spots don't line up with the edge spots. The only ceramics I've seen that I really like are the classics and the egyptians (so far), and the reason I like both of these is that they don't have "matching" face/edge spots. They either don't have face spots (egyptians) or have a completely different face spot vs edge spot setup (classics). This might be something you would want to consider if you're doing ceramics

Chips: 177 | | Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please. I appreciate the info Sandy. To me that's the only downfall of ceramics. As most of us know.
I currently own Chipco Casinos. One thing I do like about them is that they have a simple two line edge spot. It's clean and compared to the face spots or lack there of, works nicely IMO. I love the Classics which was my original want.
At least with the Chipco "ring" it kinda breaks away from the matching of face to edge spots. I like to have some kinda of edge spot. I thought about not bringing my face spots so close to the edge maybe. I will have to play around with that as well.

Man, I wish I could afford a custom set of Bud Jones and avoid it. |

Chips: 1,697 | | | Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please. I'll just throw this out there as a personal opinion thing. I don't care that ceramic spots and faces don't line up. It's just a character of ceramics. Just like the the spots are never really perfect on clay chips. Sure Bud Jones are absolutely pristine in that respect but the plastic-ness of them have never appealed to me. There's always something about a quality chip that will never hit everyone's buttons, just decide what matters most to you and comparet that to what you can really get.
Clay
pro- feel, sound
con -always a bit off in some way
Ceramic
pro- graphics, sharpness
con - spots don't line up, wear
Plastic
pro -sharp color, lines, wear
con - feel, sound
but you could get people to rage on for days about the relative merits of the cheuqes they prefer. |

Chips: 2,131 | | | Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please. I think the whole idea of trying to imitate Bud Jones or clay designs with ceramics offers a hollow promise of satisfaction. I, too, would love to own a set of custom Bud Jones--but having a set of ceramics that only looked like them but didn't have the sound of them, the feel of them, the schtacking, the schmell of them, the taschte (I love G-O-O-O-O-LD!) would only make me long for the real thing even more. So IMVHO, if you're going to go ceramic, make it a kickass ceramic-style design, like the Egyptians, Crystal Oysters, Fins, DeCarlo's, VARoadstter's, et. al. Otherwise, it's kind of like having one of those ricer cars that are all looks but still have the factory 4-cylinder and can't go more than 90 MPH. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
