Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please.

I kinda see Deckard's point about ceramics. The one thing I would say about the BR Pro's is that at least there's no white anywhere on the chip. The edgespot alignment is kinda bothersome; but all in all I went ceramic again because:

1. Custom and totally secure that way.
2. Quick delivery (I am an instant gratification guy) not willing to wait for ASM's or other custom clays
EDIT > COST!! @ .94 a chip (for 300 chips) you can't beat the price for such a relatively small amount of chips.
3. Feel and Stacking. Accounting for the first two, Ceramic give you the best stacking and feel overall, while still meeting the other criteria.

I am feeling the clay-bug creep up on my like an impending cold though, but plenty of fluids and few more big pots won, I might be able to afford the cure...

So IMVHO, if you're going to go ceramic, make it a kickass ceramic-style design, like the Egyptians, Crystal Oysters, Fins, DeCarlo's, VARoadstter's, et. al. Otherwise, it's kind of like having one of those ricer cars that are all looks but still have the factory 4-cylinder and can't go more than 90 MPH.

Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please.

If you go BR Pro it'll actually be .84 a chip since you said you want at least 500 (.88 if you want 2 different sides). After that the only other cost is shipping ($16 was what i was quoted, i'm in the states).

Wink Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please.

This is why this board is the bomb! I truly appreciate all of the comments and insight.

As MeridianFC related, it's preference. I actually like both ceramics and clay but lean towards ceramics. (ever since I staied and played at Luxor)

The edget spots not lining up is not that big of an issue with me but I would prefer for it to line up if it coould. Since, that will not happen, then I will be designing/wanting an edge spot that would adapt with the face like let's say Chipcos Casinos, Classics, etc.

To R Deckard's point, that's exactly what I want. A kick ass chip like Fins, DeCarlo's, VARoadstter's, and Capstone's. All very worthy of an ovation and all peeked my interest for my own. I'm hoping that mine when finished will be grouped in this class.

The price point is important which is leaning me towards the BR Pros and like Capstone, I too am an instant gratification guy. I have a soft spot for the ASMs but when my design is ready, I want my chips to see action quickly.

I will be getting my boy (graphics type) involved soon. I think my whole point with my first cut was to get color schemes going. My next step is to come up with the graphics.

When I have another draft, I will post it.

Red face Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please.

Ok here's another image done with my very very very limited skills in Photoshop.

Design concept. Picture of El Moro in Puerto Rico. I'm Puerto Rican, Ike's Place, yada yada yada.

My edge spots will be simple and clean. Didn't have time to draw them up but with the face being the way it is, any edge spots I place will work.

Shoot away but remember, my skills are limited here. I would imagine that the artist at the place I will get the chips will correct things for me. (Or I'll have something nicer when my boy has time to assist.)

When you say wear is a con. How bad?

Also does this count for chipco as well? Being in casino's they'd take a beating wouldn't they?

However I'm close to ordering BR Pro's due to the price. But I do want my err investment to last quite some time

Arrow Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please.

Veneer, I always believed that the wear on ceramics that you would encounter is through the beating they would get in a casino.

Now, I would ask someone who's had some ceramics at home for a long period of time to see what kinda wear they have seen. My guess, based on my readings on Chiptalk, is that it would be a long time before you see wear in home use. Some say it adds character.

I'll play around with your new idea also, but here is what I came up with from your first description of what you were looking for:

Flavah, that's actually not bad. The force is strong with your graphic skills. (I couldn't resist saying that.)

It's crisp and clean. I do want to incoporate a graphic like the picture in my 2nd attempt. Maybe I should do a two sided chip. More $ but hey, why not.

Thanks for the assist!

Re: It's official...Starting my quest...Opinions please.

I actually found a pic of that castle or place in PR that you are looking for. I'm in the process of playing around. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have something to show you as a beginning for the mock-ups.
