Chips: 215 | | | A few general questions on customs After lurking around and thinking about it for a few months, I’ve finally decided to get serious about getting some custom chips made. I’m going to get a set for my limit ring games, so that it is more secure than using my tourney chips. We currently run a .50/$1.00 limit game with 7-10 players, but I would want the set to be able to handle up to maybe a $2/$4 game with maybe up to 20 players. Our tourneys are now averaging well over 20 players, and I want to be able to accommodate as many as want to get into the ring games afterwards. So, I'm looking at a 25c, $1, and $5 piece. Possibly a $25 chip as well. I’m thinking a total chip set of maybe 600-800 chips. Anyway, on to the chips.... I definitely want clays as opposed to ceramics. I really want edge spots (various sizes/colors, if possible)… Which clay manufacturer would give me the best options on spots for an order this small? I also want a custom inlay, and wanted to toss this out to the group and see what peoples’ ideas and comments are on inlays. If you have personal chips, what is your theme? How did you come up with it? Is it your business? Hobby? Or maybe just your name followed by poker/card/game room/house/pad… I'm still trying to figure out exactly what the heck I want on em... Thanks… Z |

ASM or TRking
Edgespots:
ASM offers only the 3-12 option (look at there samples) and run about $1 a piece. TRking gives you variation but at a low quantity such as 800, they will run you at least $2 / chip.
Inlay:
I suggest something simple, classy, and will not age with time. That being said, having your intial or full name followed by "poker lounge" or "poker room" is most ideal. Look at the thread "Your ASM order" in Custom Chip General forum. THere are alot of very nice inlay designs. |

Chips: 145 | | | Re: A few general questions on customs I don't think 600-800 chips is going to cover 20 people very well.
Some here say I advocate more chips than necessary--which may well be true--but the way I see it you're going to want each player to have at least 20 of the main denomination you use during play. 20 x 20 = 400, so to accomodate 20 players you're going to want at least 400 of the main denomination used during play. Thus, if you're playing $0.50/$1.00 you will want 400 x $0.25 chips plus whatever $1.00 chips you'll need to cover your buy-in. Similar logic holds true for your $1/$2 and $2/$4 games.
I would suggest a 1200 piece set, comprised of 400 x $0.25, 400 x $1.00, 400 x $5.00. Using the $1 & $5 chips, this would accomodate a buy-in of $120 for up to 20 players, which would make for 30 big bets (a reasonable buy-in) in a $2/$4 game.
You might consider forgoing the denominations and make a 400-300-100 set. This should cover 20 players pretty well with little difficulty.

Chips: 5,848 | | | Re: A few general questions on customs TR King (TRK) will be expensive (probably less than $2/chip depending on options) but offer the most options for customization. A custom hot stamp might be a cheaper route here if you want non-denoms as you only need a single die setup. See here http://chiptalk.net/forum/custom-chi...rted-fire.html
Blue Chip (BC) may be expensive if you want denominated chips as they seem to charge a setup cost for each inlay style. See Kendomans posts on his custom chips for more details. Also, I believe they only offer a selection of stock colors and edgespot styles to choose from for home chips.
ASM is the cheapest and easiest to deal with but you are limited to solid or 312 edgespot styles (currently). You do have multiple molds styles to choose from and they are flexible and affordable when it comes to inlays (dual sided, full color, design help, etc).
Other options are some of the new Paulson home chips coming out; not custom but quality chips.

Chips: 215 | | | Re: A few general questions on customs Thanks for all the comments and advice so far...
Some good info in that kendoman thread... that's a sweet setup!
does BC have a website? anyone have an email or phone# for them? I think I saw somewhere that indicated they were located in vegas.. do they have a b&m storefront/showroom or anything? (I happen to be going there this weekend)...
ASM's were high on my list until I realized they only offered 312 patterns... I'd like a little more variety than that.
Price & options aside, from a strictly quality standpoint, how do these 3 compare? BC, ASM, TRKing?
Thanks

Chips: 947 | | | Re: A few general questions on customs I would definately NOT go with TR Kings. They do not impress me at all. Their mold is not very exciting. However I hear that they hold up well.
I really like the choices for ASM.

Keep your eyes open on the Group buy section. You might be able to get in on a GB of special Edge spots.
Check out this GB Link Although it is too late to get in http://chiptalk.net/forum/group-buy-...ng-closed.html |

Chips: 1,700 | | | Re: A few general questions on customs ASM is probably the best all around choice in spite of limitations.
TRKing is the best for some variation but you really need quantity to make it worthwhile. 5,000 chips min. to get to $1/chip.
Blue Chip (including those resold through Nevada Jacks) are another good choice but again you need serious quantity. FWIW I think the BCs done of the Nevada Jack's mold are much better.
Getting together with a few people for a group buy is one way to do it, but it can be kind of a pain. |

Z | I believe the phone # has been posted somewhere in this forum. Try pm'ing circlencircle or kendoman as they've both dealt with BC before. They don't have a website unless they've put 1 up recently. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
