Inlay comments ***Artwork Approved...wait begins

***Update 01/19/06 Artwork Approved
I just approved the artwork. Now the wait begins. I gotta get home and check my porch

***Update 01/18/06 Proofs
Here are the proofs after some tweaking with Sandy at PC.com

These are the three chips I am currently ordering. There have been some minor tweaks, but a sizable tweak to the shading of the red chip boat pic. I think I definitely like it this way.

What do you guys think? Approve it and get these puppies rolling?

By the way, can anyone tell me how I can use that proof to print out the actual size to do an arms length test on the text?

Thanks

***Update 01/11/06 Order Placed

I just placed my order.
I ordered the following for now:

217 - Grey 214 Lavender (25 cent denom)
272 - Imperial Blue 414 White ($1 denom)
167 - Mandarin Red 3D14 Orange and Yellow ($5 denom)
---------------------------------
656 chips total orderd.

You may be asking why the odd number. I ordered a couple extra of each chip as I owe a couple of sample sets to people. My set will be 650 chips total.

I emailed in my artwork, but have some final tweaking to do with Sandy including discussing the full bleed vs white ring. Can't wait to get the proofs back and release the order.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I will post pictures/scans of the chips as soon as I get them.

***ANNOUNCEMENT

Please note that the green 412 and the black 4D14 are only on my WISH list. They are not currently available. I hope they will be sometime in the future. I was notified that some people have tried to order them thinking I was indicating they were available. This is not the case.

For my own purposes I will somehow fill in the green and black with other spot patterns if they never become available.

Sorry for any confusion

***UPDATE 01/10/05 3:00 EST

Ok, here are the latest mockups, including the "other" side. Two versions, one still has the white ring and the other has full bleed. I am going to talk more to ASM on that issue. Truthfully I don't know which I like better white ring or full bleed, I like aspects of both.

Oh, the edgespot colors on the green and black chip are still somewhat undecided although I think the black is going to stay as is. The green I am thinking about DG Green & DG Yellow, what do you think?

What do you think of the "other" side?

All in all I am really liking the design. There were a couple of elements that I had hoped to include, but it just ended up being too much. I think this looks good. It is fairly simple, classy, and executes the intent well.

White Ring Version

Full Bleed Version

Again, thanks to austin5string for all the hard work on these.

***End Update
________________________________

***Original Post

I know there are a lot of these going on here, but I wanted to put some mockups up of what I am thinking for my inlays.

These will be the backside (or would it be the front? not sure how to consider it) of the chips, still working on the other side.

What do you think? Some of the edgespot colors are as yet uncertain, but here is the general idea. I'm not to sure about the white ring, anybody know if that is a requirement for ASM even if it is just color and not writing or something?

Oh, and many thanks to forum member austin5string for all of his help on these, could never do it without him.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Inlay comments

They look very nice.
I believe pc.com will let you do a full bleed, but not positive.
But will they let you do all those different inlays?, or is it just you can do it but it costs you a first born or something?

Nice inlays though, and waiting not for the front side, or the back side. ummm the other side.

Re: Inlay comments

yes, ASM will let u do a full bleed but its not recommended. if you use anything other than white its asking for trouble. some inlays are not totall recessed in and u can see white on the side. Check out 1 of the Chiptalk members chips in the Gallery.

Also, from experience, i do not recommend have the white ring around your design, that is asking for HUGE trouble. If the ring turns out even, then it looks good, but most of the time the prints are off centered. Having the ring will show PCs imperfection. Take the ring out.

Ok, so don't do a full bleed and don't do a white ring, how exactly does that work? That makes it seem like the only option is an all white inlay.

Nope, they will let you do different inlays on different chips, just not different inlays on the same chip, and as far as I can tell it won't cost anything.

pretty much! again, i am telling u this from my own experience. ASM is really limited to what they can do with the inlays. If u really want to keep 1, then i suggest the full bleed. The ring is highly not recommended.

One solution could be to feather the edges of your images, such that they fade from image to white... In this way, images being offcenter would be far less obvious.

I concur,

Also, i have a comment about your green chip. U currently have green body with DG Green and Light Green for the edge spots. I recommend you use only DG Green as the light green does not provide enough contrast. I know because i have a similar selection in my last design. You can see it in the Gallery.

Enough contrast against what? Against the body color or against the other spot color? I have samples and they do look like there would be enough contrast against the body color, it would just be subtle which is what I kind of like about it.

That said, I am thinking about using DG Yellow on that chip anyways, although I'm not sure which will go with it yet, the DG Green or the Light Green.

What do you guys think?

Re: Inlay comments

i think that there will not be a big enough contrast between the 2 spots. Here are mine below. They look good in a well lit environment, but if the lights are dim, they can be quite hard to see. Note that i used lite green for the body so you will have more contrast with yours.
