Thanks again all. | Clearly better and a major improvement over the second (too busy) version.
My thoughts:
I like the suits as a "watermark"
ALL of the text is too small. Consider using a drop shadow on the denom and maybe colors on the text. Also sans-serif fonts are generally easier to read when small. Print the inlay at the correct size to get an idea of what it will look like.
It is still too busy. Consider going with a two sided design (no extra charge at PC.com). Maybe Joker on one side and denom on the other?? I don't really know how to break it up, but I think it's still too busy.
Consider using just the head of the joker?
Keep at it, it's getting better. Remember that you will be looking at these chips for a long time, so take your time and get it right.

Have you tried to print it out in actual size to see what it looks like? (The chip itself should be about 1.55 inches or 465 pixels @ 300DPI.) The text and denomination looks too small; the suits and jester seem to be overwhelming the text, and it still looks like you're trying to cram a lot of stuff into a tiny working area. Quote: |

A few thoughts...
I still really like this design overall and I know you can make it work.
As already noted, the text is too small. As JimB has mentioned, why not try the arms-length test of an actual sized printout and see how legible it is?
To get around the text problem... what about having this across the top:
"L & G's Basement"
That would open up the bottom and let you drop the joker down a bit, and thus also increase the size of the text at the top. But this may not work for you, as that may not be how you refer to your card room.
I'd ask yourself if you really need the location and established date. At least think of dropping one or both, to again free up valuable real estate that would allow other things to be larger.
Drop shadow on the denoms? I think it's already been mentioned too. Sorry, some of this is repeating other comments.
Here's a completely wacky idea... probably not usable, but maybe it'll trigger something better. What about using only two of the suits as the watermark? For instance, drop the diamond and spade. Then move the joker to the right where they were. That gives him room to shine. He really is a wild character. That would also allow you to increase the size of the denom text and make sure that drop shadow is there.
Again, all intended as constructive criticism, not meant to be negative in any way. Keep working at it.... I think you're getting close!

I agree with strange on using just the head of the Jester. Make the fonts bigger. Still a good looking design.

Make the denom a different color as well so it stands out and is obvious. |

did you print at size?
there may be too much on there for a clay chip inlay.
Would look really good on a ceramic though I think.
I like the joker, the text may be hard to read at size. You do not really need the dollar sign, unless its a cash set.
I like "the basement" as well. |

Thanks | Definitely getting better. I'm not crazy about the fonts though. I think the denoms need to be bolder & "italicized" & some script fonts don't wrap well IMO. I'd have to see it printed to see whether the bkg is too bold... I'd try to keep that as subtle as possible. Reminds me of a friends design.
