Re: confused

I assume you are referring to the ASM group buy.

The reason for the group buy is that ASM is allowing a special offer to chiptalk.net members only. The offer is 12 different chips using edgespot styles that are not normally offered to the home market (more info on the first page of the ASM GB in the group buy discussion section). This is something that many people here have been waiting for.

Mostly I imagine because chiptalk.net members are known to spend silly amounts of money on large quantities of poker chips and as a group will buy enough chips to justify them doing a special run of chips just for us.

ASM has a lot of different options for making chips, but the "1 color 3 edge spots" (their normal "home" chip seen on the web page) is typically the ONLY one they offer to the general gaming market. (Meaning you and I can buy that style, however if you are a casino, you can order from many different chip/edge styles, since you will probably buy tens of thousands of chips from them in one order.)

Also one of the head people at ASM visits this discussion board, and is a fan of the people here.

With those reasons combined, there is an offer on the table for chiptalk.net members to acquire a special ASM chip style that is usually not available to the general public.

I guess that the "2 color - 3 edge spot" design is one that is not used much by casinos, so there is no fear of them producing a chip that would make their casino clients mad if someone walked in and tried to cash some out.
