Well, I broke down my computer this morning to diagnose which HD had crashed, and it was the SECONDARY drive!!!!!!!!! Of course, I lost ALLLLLLL of my music and a LOT of software backups and some other stuff that I don't even remember what it was (so how important could it have been? LOL).
BUT, I didn't lose ANY of my photography, ANY of my graphics work for chip design or ANY of my email.
WOOHOO!!!!
Now it's time to go by a DVD burner so I can start backing up and stop being a *******!

Thanks to those of you who posted concerns.

I would reccomend an external USB HD. Turn it on back up and turn it back off. That is what I do.

ditto that. i just bought a 120 GIG for $100 a few weeks ago. best peice of mind investment you can make. now all i have to do is remeber to backup things up now and then.
Better off with some type of optical drive. Your external USB hard drive is just as likely as your other hard drive to die sometime. At least with the optical media, you can keep lots of copies for virtually pennnies. It gives you the option of going back in time to earlier points in your backups as well as the redundancy factor. External dvd dual layer drives are well under $100 now too.
