ASM Edge spot advice

I'm trying to decide between consistent gray spots for all the chips or an array of edge spot colors. Which do you prefer? I like the consistency of the grays, but I'm concerned that it may be too plain for a custom set.

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

If you can do multi-color you can make a nice set that is interesting while still making the colors work well together.
So many choices and a great tool to figure it out.

Did you make your own coat of arms or is it a family name coat of arms of the net?
How did you come up with it I was initially going that way with my design, but decided against it.

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

I voted for multiple but I think both will be great. Obssessing over the design is half the fun though, so just keep mocking them up and then it'll come to you.

Good luck!

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

I almost did all grey for the set I purchased. One of my friends was very disappointed when I didn't.

I think this is a personal thing - if you like the look of grey I would do it - they don't look too plain IMO.

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

I like the colored spots, I think they give some variety to a simple, classic looking inlay, which is a very nice inlay. To me the gray is just too plain. But these are yours and yours alone so you decide.

For me, all Grey would be too much of the same. I'm sure they would look nice, but you have all these great choices. Why limit to Grey?

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

I think you are trying to make the chips look more like a consistent set which is a good goal. The problem with gray IMHO is it takes away from the chips themselves.

Here is another option you could try:

The red and purple ones look okay but not great and the black/grey stands out much more than the rest of them.

Good luck.

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

Wow! The voting sure seems to favor one option over the other!

As much as I like the clean look of consistent edge spots, I keep thinking they look too uniform.

For some reason they just seem much more generic every time I apply a consistent color scheme, whether it be all the same edge color or even a color scheme of different colors that follow a rule (e.g., the edge spot is the color of the chip before it, or two chips before it). For me at least, once the color scheme of the overall set is visually apparent, it takes away from the individuality of each chip.

Man, this really is a sickness! I never would have imagined that I would be obsessing over such matters, and yet... I love it!

Babujit, that's a family name coat of arms that I found online. I've done several searches to ensure that it's accurate before creating the chips, and so far, it seems to be. The last thing I want to do is use the wrong coat of arms!

Anybody out there have experience in heraldry to the point that they can confirm this for me?

Re: ASM Edge spot advice

I just ordered an almost identical set for my husband, to cover cash and tourneys:

white/chocolate (25 cents)
pink/dayglo pink ($2)
blue/imperial blue ($1)
mandarin red/dg orange ($5)
green/dayglo green ($25)
black/grey ($100)
lavender/purple ($500)
yellow/dayglo yellow ($1000)

I used lavender/purple instead of purple/lavender because I thought that purple and blue might be close in colour. I was using a different simulator than Chip Factory and they looked really close to me; I suspect Chip Factory is more accurate and they aren't that bad. I haven't got them yet; hopefully they turn out. I don't expect them until after Christmas. Cathy was very discouraging of that colour theme; she said they weren't contrasting enough and I might be disappointed, but I persisted. I will post pics when they arrive.

If you like this colour scheme you might want to check out viet rounder's set here:
