My wife told me I had to...

...Post this - my first effort at designing a chip label.
I'm using the Gimp program (coz it's free), and learning as I go.
I was going for a classic, elegant style.....
Hope I'm posting this correctly, let me know what you think

Re: My wife told me I had to...

I like the typefaces and the graphic. The asymmetrical aspect of it is nice. However, since the type and the border around the graphic are both white, the type gets a little lost. All-in-all, a very nice start.

Re: My wife told me I had to...

I agree with colquhoun about the white outline around the lion. Also, I think the lion's eye is a little too far forward. It ends up behind the 'd' and you have to strain to make it out. If you can get it back, past the 'd' it will be more noticeable.

Re: My wife told me I had to...

Maybe you could eliminate the white border around the lion altogether. I think the red on black would look sharp.

Yeah ... about that whie border, I had to cut and paste the lion from a yellow background and that's as "clean" a cut I've been able to get.
I'll post the original, if anyone's interested.
About the "d" ..I'd felt something wasn't right but couldn't pin it down. The problem is though I can't draw well enough to fix the lion, what about moving the text up and out closer to the edge? Then move the text "lion" to match?
I have a bunch of photos, drawing and such, of lions if I could convert them to a line drawing or similar, I could experiment with other lions as the background/watermark. like other hearaldic lions or more "realistic" outlines?
Like I said, this is my first try .....I'm open to Ideas.

Thanks

Post it and maybe a few links of lions you like...
I did these quickly...

The one on the right is the same in the circle just made it smaller and wanted to see it in a wht stroke... the head/arms could be lop'd off to give something closer to what you posted. If it's a bkg/watermark I don't think you'd want too much detail.

Another option you may be able to use... colored one & outlined the other.

Re: My wife told me I had to...

Hey! Thanks for the images! I snagged them for a little experimentation.
Meanwhile, I finally got rid of the white outline - but for some reason I'm having trouble resizeing the lion to what I used before.... wierd!
Here's the oringinal, and my latest effort.......
