Kokopelli Custom Ceramic (FINAL CHIIPS Pics added 11/11)

FINAL PICS (ADDED 11/11 HERE)

This set came together in my head as I was looking through all the incredible ceramic designs over the past several weeks.
Knowing they would be for ceramics I wanted something:

(1) Colorful
(2) Unique
(3) Historical (yes... I have an education degree)
(4) Fun

What finally pushed me to start the artwork was the recent post regarding the new company that is now selling PuzzleMonkey's Tikis... The early indications are that their ceramics will be both high quality at a good price, and they are right here in my home state. So I've ordered some sample sets from them with hopes of making these designs become my first full set of custom ceramics. I still may go with the Tikis, but the idea of something "created" rather than "borrowed" is very appealing.

ABOUT THE DESIGN
The figure you probably recognize in the designs is the kokopelli:
"...widely held beliefs that Kokopelli was a fertility symbol, roving minstrel or trader, rain priest, hunting magician, trickster, and seducer of maidens..."

Basically, he's the "PIMP" of the Native American culture. He is viewed as good luck... therein lies the poker connection.

I will likely do a couple more denoms for cash game chips as well.

HELP WITH
So I'm ready for advice on these... be critical please!
I especially need help on the rolling edge design. I think I'd prefer they be different designs, not just different colors, but I think it should maintain a Southwestern feel to it...
(Fins, hoping you can help with these edges once you finished up with Nana's artwork. )

10/18
ORIGINAL DESIGN & THE MOST UP TO DATE IAMGES ARE FOUND LATER IN THE THREAD!

Re: Kokopelli Custom Ceramic ~ Up For Advice

I don't have any design advice, but I do love your chips. I have a Kokopelli tattoo, so obviously like the symbol. Nice work Lynbark.

Re: Kokopelli Custom Ceramic ~ Up For Advice

Very cool. The wrap & and colors are great. I like the overall feel of the design and the thought behind it... looks like a fun concept.

I think the design may warrant diff inlays? I see that the kokopelli symbol is not set in stone but easily recognizable...

Could maybe do some progression with the denoms?

I like the rolling edge and it would be better in light of the above to have them tied together but slightly diff on each.

You'll have to find out how they'll do the printing b/c if it's similar to NJ you'll have to take that into account which the current mock doesn't IMO... they'll be some randomness so they all won't be the same in regards to horiz. & vertical alignment.

If that edge design will work another set could have spirals.

The symbol made me think of the font Jokerman... might be some shapes in there to play with... but also more relevant was Mini Pics Red Rock if you'd consider other characters for other denoms?? The font charming symbols? made me wonder if there were other similar symbols of good fortune that may fit in with the theme... is the geko a sign of good luck? Is the symbol with the same wrap too repetitive? Thats what made me thinking of other options... maybe not??

Just some first thoughts... if I come up with others I'll serve 'em up.

Look forward to seeing this progress _and_ your review of the samples.

I love 'em!

The only thing I'm not too crazy about would be the light blue pattern on the $1000. The combination is just a bit buzzy. Did you try it with darker shades of blue, or even green? Maybe a dark turquoise-y thing.

Also, speaking of turquoise, I know you're trying to keep to standard chip colors here, but have you considered a more Southwestern color scheme for the purple chip?

Re: Kokopelli Custom Ceramic ~ Up For Advice

Thanks guys!!!

... kokopellis part deux...

Old set on the left, new stuff with lots-o-changes on the right.

Let me know about each of these modifications (good, bad, or indifferent):

(1) The new font (jokerman) for the denoms
(2) The set having different kokopellis rather than the same throughout
(3) The new 500 chip & matching wrap color
(4) The new earth-tone wrap on the 1000

KEEP the suggestions coming!

I am not artistic enough to give advise. All I can say is that "I LIKE." I can see improvement in the second one already, I am sure as more ideas get incorporated, design will get better and better.

I would have snip'd the pic but I like it too much

I think the diff koko's add to the chip and look like they're singing the denoms!

Can't decide which 500 color I like better... made me wonder if the set should have a tourquoise, although I don't know if I'd like it but it's very southwestern is it not??

Wondered what the 500 figure would look like laying down with the denom above so it could be slightly larger?? Along those lines would the 1000 look good stacked like...

... just other things to try but I like their current relation to the denoms.... 2nd look maybe not but idk.

Definitely prefer the 1000 colors in the 2nd set.

Can't decide if I like the blue on the blk... could be the dawg in me but I'd try red

Lookin' good!

So I'm pretty sure on:
(1) Different Kokos for each denom
(2) the earthtone 1000
(3) I like the bluish 500 better, maybe not satisfied completely.

Version 3 changes
Tried the 500 figure laying down... he looked like he had been shot to death....plus, he couldn't be enlarged any more as the distance within the wrap is the same there as well.
Tried the 1000 a couple more ways, as well as the red on Blk...
also played with the spiral idea just a bit...not liking the spiral I used, and may need some more color, too.
