Printed it out.
The red dragons are hard to see.
Initials are hare to read as well.
Print has to be bigger as well.

Nice design, but yes the font is way too small, actual size it must me nearly impossible to read. A little bit of tweaking and they should look great.

Re: Best I could do so far with photoshop...

Wonder If I could make the coat of arms bigger and put the denoms in the ribbon on the bottom instead of the name.

Have to find some way to do that

Trial and error is the only way that you're going to get the hang of this. Just keep in mind the fact that you're working with a 1" label and printing area should be in the range of 7/8" to allow for printer creep.

Did you make each part of the graphic in a new layer? It's generally a good idea to do so (on the right hand side, in the Layers window, there's a little triangle. Click on that for layer options).
If you put them all on the same layer, use the polygonal lasso tool in the toolbox (left side of the screen). Click to make a point, then click again and a line of 'marching ants' will be drawn from point to point. Use that to make a rough outline (as close as you can get to the crest). Once finished go to Edit at the top of the Photoshop window, then select Transform > Scale. You can drag the corners to resize. Then do copy/paste, which makes a new layer. Same procedure to make the banner bigger. Now you'll have the crest and banner on new layers. Go to your original inlay and redo the white circle, which covers over the old crest & banner. Then retype your stuff. Save, then go to the layers window again and do Flatten image. Save again w/diff file name.)

Re: Best I could do so far with photoshop...

I think resizing so that you can put the denomination on the banner is a good idea. I would just resize the banner, though, not the whole coat of arms. That will leave room to increase the size of the top text.

The design looks out of balance to me with the big bright maple leaf on one side and the wimpy little initials on the other side. I would pick one or the other and use it on both sides. But, I'm also a symmetry nut - things like that just bug me.

This is a bit sloppy, but here's a shot..

EDIT: As I look at this, you'd have trouble fitting higher denoms on that banner, so this might not work.

That looks real nice I think, totally right about the symmetry. Looks better just with the initials. I might get rid of the banner all together, and just put denom.
It looks pretty sharp.
Poboy thanks for the explanation everything helps. This site is just great for so many reasons. I'll be back at it tomorrow at work.hehe

Already a ton better. I really like it.

I still think that you are going to need to do something with the denom though. It would be easy to miss. (IMO)

I think that would be a good idea - eliminate the banner and use numbers instead of spelling it out. Would probably be a lot more legible.
