Charging $0.10 each - you would only have to run 200,000 poker chips to pay for the machine. Not including foil and die costs.

Seems to me that a much, much smaller device can do the same job without the automation. One could even be built out of an old steam iron.
Die-making is the only difficult step in the process.
Try Google and use "hot stamp press" as a search argument. You can also find them on eBay frequently. Insofar as how they work, they work like a slot machine, just pull the handle (or like a drill press). The press heats up the die(s) and transfers the impression to via foil to the intended target (chip or whatever). It could be a bit of a laborious process if you're going to stamp a thousand chips (2000 impressions) or are thinking of using it to make a little extra change. I think 5star is only charging something like 5-8¢ to hot-stamp chips these days, doesn't seem to make it worthwhile to do it yourself.
