That idea seems great. Be careful about black edge bleeds. I have described concerns (see the feedback left in the viet rounder's gallery thread) that push me away from recommending a black edge bleed inlay.

I think a black background is nice, but do agree with the bleed problem. That’s the reason why I have a white border. That can also cause problems as well. If the border is even, than it looks amazing, if its not, despite how beautiful your design is, it will throw the eyes off. Just make sure you tell the PC people to take note of their quality control.

Can someone explain the bleed problem a bit more. I'm kind of confused about it. Does it have something to do with whenever the inlay is cut off the sheet it leaves the white edges or what?

me too. These chips came to mind when I saw the OP.
