I thought I was done - High Arctic Poker

I know you guys/gals are sick of me and my chips... I am sorry!

We started them years ago, picked them up again recently and I really thought I was finished. So I sent the files to Gene (ABC) and had prototypes made... I got them back a little while ago and I was sad... the text was not 100% readable.

I know they are chips not books... but if I have text on them then I want to be able to read it! So I reworked them again.

I decided to recreate the whole chip, as they were originally done by sn0wstorm in Photoshop and I prefer Illustrator.

I want to add that sn0wstorm was ready, willing and able to help me out with the re-work I just wanted to work on them myself.

Anyway after some time I came up with this new version, thoughts?

Ignore the white ring around the original, I decided to go with aligned edges in the end.

ORIGINAL

NEW VERSION

Of course another option that would guarantee readable text is make it all black, thoughts on that?

old version >>>>>>>>>>>>> new versions. "bounty" looks out of place in the middle area of the chip imo. looks better and more identifiable on the edge as before.

I should add, and I will post in a bit. All the denominations are in the same spot on the chip as the bounty word. But i see what you mean about the placement.

Could you post a scan or close-up pic of the prototype? It might make it easier to figure out exactly why it's not working.

I will get that done as soon as possible.

But the problem, is a problem of stroke... imho.

Re: I thought I was done - High Arctic Poker

My thoughts on what was wrong with the prototypes...

1. the black stroke was too thick on the text, so there was too much bleed.
2. the text on the back sides ran over the polar bears leg so it threw me off
3. the "bounty" and "show'em" text on the front sides did not match the set.
4. the black stroke on the 100 (black chip) was not needed and 'squished' the text

the list of things I LOVE on the chips is way too long, so I will not even bother

Re: I thought I was done - High Arctic Poker

Looking at the scans - I think they look pretty good. there's a couple of things that seem like they could be improved. You may have played with these features or looked at various options, but my thoughts on the old design:

-The text at the bottom looks fine in the scans, but if the leg is the issue, what about placing the town at the top and the denomination in the rock? A little non-traditional, but may work and solve the issue.
-The number and location text on the back seems small. There's plenty of space on the chip. Making the font larger may help with the read-ability.
-The front denomination font seems odd. You use a stylized font for High Artic Poker (which I really like), then just the generic number. -- seems similar to your bounty/show'em comment
-The cross-hairs I would make vertical, maybe resize on the front of the chip

Regarding the new design
-Have you considered angling the word bounty - if going with the off-set Resolut, xxx, it may look better.

The back side leg issue has been fixed I think, I raised the entire bear and rock to add the empty space needed. I think it works, I had to 'tilt' the Resolute text but I am OK with that.

I was trying to keep the text the same size on front and back, but I get what you are saying. I will play with that idea.

I see that, I will check it out

I tried that and it looked better to me tilted, flowed better or something. Resize the front of the chip... hmmmmm let me think about that one

Funny you should mention that... I just did a quick one of the back side of the 5 chip with the denomination of to the side. I think I like it! The front side also has the denomination in the same font as 'Arctic Poker'
