Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

These chips look eerily familiar to one of the SunFly design completion chips.

I like the original design that you did last year the most, not the new one that looks like an SF on the inlay.

SF = Science Fiction

If so, how is that. The inlay-design didn't changed. It's more or less the same. The half-stone part is gone, but everything else is pretty similar.

Do you think they look a bit Alien vs. Predator like?
That's the only possible connection I can get to a SF-Theme, but the wooden "cage" the dragon is in should'nt let this impression occur.

I'm curios.

Cheers,
Pils

Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

Sorry for posting 2 times in a row, but this hasn't much to do with the previous post... maybe it has somehow.

I've done the mock-up over again to fit it to the printers needs.

360 pixels resulotion and the exact color-schemes.

In the process I tried out the old half-stone inlay mentioned one post above.

I can imagine very well to go with it on the front. Maybe letting the back as it was. What do you think ???

Cheers,
Pils

Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

SF = SunFly - a chip manufacturer. If you search for the Sunfly competition, you will see a chip that looks very much like the one you are showing us.

I'm not sure if I like the stone or not. I think I could go either way with it...

I like the quote taking up the entire back instead of it having to share the back with another element. I still think I'd like a different font, but I don't know what that would be...

You could use a drop shadow to make the letters stand out more maybe.

After some consideration I will go without the stone. It takes out a bit of the classy look it has at the moment.

Also I tried the drop-shadow on the wisdom-texts on the back. It's not a spectacular effect, but with very few distance it works well to set apart the text from the background well enough. I also reduced the "see through" effect on the texts to make them stand out more clearly.

Next step is the inlay colour. I've made three variants.

No.1: same as before

No.2: one part of the dragon get's brighter to make the colours shine more when the chip is printed. (they tend to darken when printed)

No.3: both dragon parts bright to really let the colours shine and to have a chip I can compare to the other variants when printed.

What do you guys think is the right direction for the inlay-colours. Bright tones, great contrats or the more shadened colours of No.1

Cheers,
Pils

Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

Variant 4:

I tried to give Variant 2 a bit more contrast and came up due to a missclick on the "inner shadow" button with Variant 4.
This combines bright colours with great contrast best I think. I'll have to see the different inlays as printed chips, but I can very well imagine, that the 4th variant will come out best if printed.

What do you think ?
Which colour-scheme will be the one of choice ?

Cheers,
Pils

Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

Hi there,

I tried to imagine various color-designs for my chips and I'm still searching for some cool ideas and color-combinations I didn't came up with yet.

Often you see a chip and think by yourself, that this could fit perfectly.

Any ideas for different colors ?
That would be great if some of u might come up with cool combinations.

Furthermore I will have 9 different Chips for my whole set. So I'll have to decide on specific colors and can't use all.

Which of my color-ideas do you like and which one not ?

Cheers,
Pils

Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

I like the shadowing effect of V4.

Will all the colors use the same color border? If so, what are you going to about your rolling edges?

I like most of your insert colors. The ones I don't like are 3.Nightshit, 4.Lapis, and 8.Bounty.

Nice design.

I don't have my samples yet, but all my new color-schemes are build up on Version 4 of the chip, 'cause I like it best also.

@ the disliked inserts
8. Bounty:
It's much too busy with all the colors... never meant it to be a real choice. More a test.

4. Lapis:
This one changed again in the new version.

3. Nightshift:
To find a good looking black colored chip is really hard with this set. Normally I like the blake ones, but it's kinda hard to integrate into this set.
See below the variations.

@ Rolling Edges
You'll find some on the two following pictures or at least how I plan them to look like.

(Nearly) complete set:

I put together my denoms of choice. Still without the hybrid denoms, but the correct tourney-denoms and wisdom-texts integrated. Have a look at the colors. Some have major changes. (Amethyst for example)
But ignore the black one "Woodcut", in the second image I have a selection of possible black ones.

Possible black chips for the 100 denom:
(please choose one)

I tried various things here; integrating the wooden structure in different ways and changing the "nightshift"-chip a bit.
Variant 2 is my personal favourit. It's kinda of a black version of the desert sand. I'd go so far, that I actually like it as the black version of my chipset.

Re: Sun Tzu -Art of War- Mockups

Breathtaking designs! Love the old set and the faces of the new design.

Be aware that chips must be easily identifiable from across the table using only the the edge of the chip. This is necessary to avoid the "dirty stack" problem. If all denominations have woodgrain edges, a small demonimation chip could "hide" in the middle of a large denomination stack and cause a misunderstanding during betting.

Once again awesome work, love the concept!
