I like the racetrack, but with the cupholders built into the rail, not the track. That way you get the uninterrupted surface of the track, but you still have a cupholder. I've never seen a home-built table built that way though, I guess because it's more complex to build.

so you asked---race tracks look nice and that's it, I would prefer no race track and no drink holders built-in to the table or the rail, but may allow the slide under the rail cup holders--not a big fan of too much junk on the poker table.

I have a table.....so to speak.
I made it out of plywood from homedepot that fits ontop of a plastic folding table from costco that would be too small to play on.
It is rectangle at the moment but i was planning on rounding it out to a regular shape soon.
I would really apreciate it if you could show me a link or pics on how to make propper hand rails. they would really top of the table and make it look exactly like yours which i love

To make a rail, you cut a ring 1.5" to 2" off of the outside of the base table, then (depending on what plywood you have laying around) you use a second piece of plywood or piece together scraps to make a 3 to 5" ring to attached to the ring you just cut off the base table (see photos - I hope you can visualize what I am writing). Once this is done you buy the foam and vinyl to cover.

For this table I bought foam and vinyl in a package from the website where I got the suited poker cloth. On another rail I built, I used cheaper 1" foam from Walmart. The cheaper foam was no where near as dense, so that rail does not have much padding to it, but it works well enough for me. So, depending on how much padding you want, you decide. The denser 1" foam makes a rail that is well padded and I would not want any more than that - if you go with cheaper foam you may want to get thicker than 1".
