"Puzzlemonkey" is a reference to the monkey puzzle tree, so named because it bears a nut that is difficult for monkeys to open up. I just like the word "monkey," really. It is coincidence that I used an actual monkey on the chips.
The monkey in the fez is something that just seems to appear in tiki/kitsch art, so I used it. Originally, I didn't have a gold chip, so there was a tiki for each suit, a joker, and the monkey. The second joker with the cards throws off the balance a bit, but I'd rather have the extra chip and I had no more ideas...

Did you design the tiki's?
|
Yes. The tikis were all hand drawn on paper by me.

What about the background patterns?
|
Yes. With a lot of reference to get patterns I liked.

Did you use illustrator or photoshop?
|
Both. I used Photoshop to scan the drawings and work with them, then I imported them into Illustrator, where I did all the backgrounds, patterns and edge spots. I ended up converting the line drawings into vectors so that Chipco could better control the colors. (All files delivered to Chipco must end up as Illustrator files, and it's easier for them if it's all vector information.)

Are you going to let other people order your chips?

I'll be getting back to you on that
