I don't really know where to start, so here goes..
I
LOVE my custom ASM's. Received them Monday, April 21, can't wait to get them in play. I've owned every set of Paulson/BJ/etc. chips, and today I found out that there is nothing like a great set of ASM customs, to me. I've finally found a "lifer" set.
BIG THANKS to machinelf, who did amazing work on the inlays. Took my thoughts/idea, and completely changed it around to something better, and was great to work with the whole time. Truly one of the best designers on chiptalk (and there are many great ones, for sure).
Another BIG THANKS to ASM. Man, they were great to work with, and they really know what they are doing. I also asked for a few edgespot patterns that aren't "officially" allowed (or, they weren't when I ordered them), and they said no problem. Fantastic product and customer service.
My review of the chips Mold
I am so stoked that I chose the hourglass mold. I absolutely love this mold. Not only is it classy and simple, but it also has the ability for the 1" inlay, the only ASM mold for that (to my knowledge). All the chips came out with the great textured inlay too. Couldn't be more happy with the mold.
Chips Dimer - Simple coloring and edgespot combo. Happy with the chip. Not a stunner, as a micro stakes chip shouldn't be, but it's a classy looking chip.
Quarter - LOVE this chip. I wanted something somewhat simple, but also with some color. I love the DG Green and Lav 2a12 choice, and I was always set on Chocolate for the base. One of my favorites in the set.
$1 - Love the chip, especially from the front. In stacks, you can see that the color red had some splits in the edgespot. Doesn't take much away from the chip overall, as I love the tri-colored edgespots.
$5 - Another of my favorite chips. 3U Crew, here I come. I've ALWAYS been a proponent of using hot pink spots on the red chip, and I think it looks great. I am glad I went with the black small spot too.
$20 - Solid chip. This color combo is all over chiptalk - and that's because it looks so great together. I first admired it in tastic's great set.
T25 - I am really glad I went DG Green. I can't tell a difference in weight, even though I'm sure there is a slight diff. The same red color as was on the $1 chip had splitting problems here as well. Chocolate had no problems. I really didn't know what to do with the 25 chip, but the DG Green is what makes it, IMO.
T100 - Huge fan of the 3a tri-colored spots, can't you tell? This is a great chip, another of my favorites. None of the spots had any splitting problems, so these look fantastic in a rack.
T500 - Might be the best chip of the bunch. For some reason, purple, white, with a little DG Peach just goes great together. I have to give a little credit to JM, as I loved his 3U Antarctica which was a white 3U, with purple and DG Peach, so kind of the flip of my chip. All of the spots are pristine on this chip. Can't say enough about this chip.
T1000 - I like it, nothing fantastic. I've always loved Orange, but finding colors that go well with Orange is tough, IMO. I think the impBlue and white look good. In all honesty though, I'll probably be setting up tourneys with mad deep stacks of the 500 3U's!
T5000 - Turned out better than I thought. This was the one I just couldn't decide upon. I think I might end up doing a tricolored 6a14 Grey with Black, hot pink, and something else. Or, since I loved AlbinoDragon's Grey/Pink combo, I might just redo these in a 412 grey with hot pink spots. I'm also considering making the 5k a plaque.
Timeline:
Nov-Dec -- Mocking up inlays for BCC chips, so the inlays were nearly done when I decided to go with ASM, just needed tweaked
1-28-08 -- Initial contact with Cathy (looking to sneak into the Jan 10% sale)
1-30-08 -- Order submitted
1-31-08 -- Artwork submitted
2-06-08 -- Received Sales Order
2-12-08 -- Received Proof
2-12-08 -- Approved Proof
2-15-08 -- Payment sent
4-21-08 -- Chips received! I was happy with the turnaround time overall. It was disappointing when it got pushed back a few weeks, but it was still basically 9 weeks from artwork approval, which isn't bad at all!
