Post Golden Stardust - Private Cardroom (Chipco)

Vendor : HomePokerChips.com (Chipco)

Timeline.
08/23/07 - I submit my artwork file
09/18/07 - Their artist finalizes my artwork; I give the okay
09/18/07 - Off to production; est. time of 3 weeks
10/17/07 - Chips arrive

My experience with HPC was great. I was in contact (through email) on and off with Dave for about a year before I placed my order. I got prompt and helpful responses everytime. I felt very well taken care of; they definitely want to ensure that YOU will be very happy with your purchase. In the future, I will probably order another set through them.

The 2 main reasons I went with HomePokerChips/Chipco were :
  • 1) I still think Chipco has the best ceramic; I prefer the feel of Chipco's over the others. Others come close, but not quite.
  • 2) Their fixed color palette. I felt very confident knowing that colors I picked from their color wheels were the colors I was going to get. I didn't have to worry about any potential color shifting problems. There are more than enough colors to choose from.
Potential Production Issue.
There was one slight issue that delayed my chips going into production**. I was warned that white text-wording on the edges of black chips could potentially be problematic (short story; a few years ago they could do it no problem, but Chipco has since generally advised against it). I was given a few options to bypass that potential issue, but the options weren't satisfactory to me. I didn't want to alter the artwork and I was set on white text on my black edges, and as minor as it may seem, it could've been a deal breaker if I couldn't have them made that way.

** I want to note that the delay was due to me thinking about how to proceed, and not because of HomePokerChips.

I've seen (and I own) black Chipco chips with white print on the edges and I know what they were warning me about, but it didn't look that bad, so I went ahead and went with what I wanted (and crossed my fingers that they were maybe being a little over cautious). I really did appreciate them (Dave & their artist Patrick) warning me about it, and further looking into the issue to give me any more info they could about it from Chipco.

Results-Finished Product.
The black (and all the other) chips came out perfectly fine; nothing to complain about at all. I'm very happy with the results; the colors look great and all the chips look exactly like I thought they would (mainly due to their color wheels and all the mockups I made with the Full Face Mockup Tool, which was also a huge help).

Color Info.
25 : 9838 Jalapino Green w/9841 Pine Green and 9806 Orange
100 : Black w/White and 9838 Jalapino Green
500 : 9823 Violet w/9824A Grape and 9808 Warm Red
1000 : 9806 Orange w/9851 Dark Brown and 9803 Yellow
5000 : 9829 Light Blue w/9832 Dark Blue & 9857 Grey

I know first hand what they mean- and the nice thing is- they gave you a heads up on it instead of printing the order and NOT telling you.
Those black/white edges look great- whatever issue they may have had- I dont see it .
NICE set of chips.

Very nice set.

Are you finding spinners or has Chipco resolved that issue. I have some Classics and there are a good percentage of spinners?

Good luck with the new chips.

Thanks Joe ... I appreciate it.

For others not aware, the issue with white print on a black edge is bleeding, which causes the white text to thin and be grayed out or become smudged ... the "fix" was simply adding a stroke (an added outline) to the text to compensate for any potential bleeding.

I ordered extras to hold as replacements; there were about 20 - 30 out of 1000+ chips that were a little warped that I weeded out from the main set. Additionally, there were a few others that weren't completely flat, but were imo absolutely acceptable (nothing to complain about).

I don't have any spinner complaints; a good percentage of mine aren't spinners. Even of the 20 to 30 I weeded out, only about 12 (?) or so were noticeably warped ... noticeably that is, to people like us.

Re: Golden Stardust - Private Cardroom (Chipco)

Nice chips! Very bright & colorful - they turned out great, congrats!

I'm curious though - on the last pic (in the rack), what are the chips with the white glossy edges?? Looks like a yellow 1K, and maybe some other colors in the stack. Did you have some prototypes printed up by another (non-Chipco) vendor?

If so, how about a side by side comparison??

Wow those look great! Nice job.

I guess you won't be needing your TRK hotstamp stardusts anymore right, I'll take them off your hands and give them a nice home!

Nice Job Jello!

Great to see they came out exactly as you planned.

You're absolutely right... ChipCo's are THE best ceramics, And HPC does a great job. Welcome to the family!

Thanks ... bright and colorful was what I wanted.

I lent this chip design to Mark (Royal Poker Supply) a while back so he could experiment printing ceramics ... he was kind enough to send the printed samples to me afterwards. They didn't turn out so good. IIRC, he said he wasn't sure how to set up the printer correctly (and thus no printed edges) ...

No way my friend ...
I already sold off my King's Crown stamped TRKs to fund these ... I will be keeping my solid stamped TR Kings.
