Re: "Bad Ass Poker" Badonka Donk Donkament

I just did a test-oil tonight: 4 of each = 20 chips oiling just the edges (rolled them on an oil-soaked sponge, then on paper towel) and 1 of each = 5 heavily soaked on both sides. I plan to oil all 1300 - just edges, but wanted to see how bad the damage to labels is if I screw up and get oil all over the faces.

I'll try to remember my camera so I can do a "before, during, after" comparison. So far, oiling seems to effect the darkest colours most (black, purple, red, green - in that order) and isn't even noticeable on the arch-yellow. It makes my denom text colour match the chip base much better! (labels came out a touch darker than I'd expected).

I plan to do most of the oiling on Tuesday, and put these puppies into play on Thursday.

* By the way, not sure if anybody cares, but while labeling these, I noticed tremendous colour transfer or the green chips to my fingers... None of the others did anything weird, but the green chips made my fingers and thumbs BLACK (not green). Not sure if oiling will reduce this or not. I didn't get any blue or white chips, so someone else will have to report on blue colour transfer.

Mostly likely the green is softer than the others.

How did the heavy oiling affect the inlay on the 5 that you did? When I oil my chips, the inlay was not affect at all.

I haven't looked yet. They're at work and I'm off for the weekend. I'll check on them on Monday - and I'll take some pics so I can update this thread. Actually, I'll do most of the oiling Tuesday, so expect to see lots of pics posted on Wednesday, and perhaps some "in action" pics posted Friday night.

Re: "Bad Ass Poker" Badonka Donk Donkament

Finally updated the OP with some donkey pr0n. There should be 7 pics in the OP now (not sure why it's having so much trouble loading up this morning... something wrong with my server).

Just wanted to quote the old OP for historical accuracy:

(placeholder pending photos)

I finished labeling all my PalmImports solid clay (The Solid Wall) "1st run" chips (complete with cracks). Unfortanately the chips are at work (in a chemistry lab) and I left my camera at home.

In the meantime, here are the mock-ups (front and back):

The actual chips look pretty much exactly like the mock-ups. If I had a scanner, I'd chop up the mock-up image, photoshop the inlays to look textured, rotate some of them slightly, and do a "free chip to the first person who can get 100% right which are the mock-ups and which are the real chips" contest. But alas...

Designed as a T1000-T2000 for up to 30-players, plus re-buys/add-ons in most cases. Breakdown (with extras in parentheses) is:

300 x 5 (+25)
360 x 25 (+15)

140 x 500 (+10)
100 x 1000 (+25)
--------------------
1200 (+100) with face value of 210,500.

Default tourney structure is: http://individual.utoronto.ca/jdunford/CPT/CPT-S3.pdf

I'll edit this post to add actual photos next week.

Even though a tad cheesy, I will give it to you that this is one of the most original and entertaining posts in a while!!!!!!!!!!! VERY NICE JOB!!!!!!!!! I know you have to be proud.

I have considered a tourney set of these chips (with custom labels). Are they really - I said "really" - that close to the feel of Paulson chips? If you say yes I may put my order in today for some Wall' Solids.

Congrats,
Clipper

Another question I forgot to ask. Do the labels stay on securely? Any concerns about them coming off?

I used PalmImports laminated textured vinyl labels. You can't get them off without an exacto-knife. I literally cannot get one off with my fingernails... and they're exactly the size of the recesses, so there's no room to pick at them. Seriously, 5 days after labeling I tried to remove a couple labels ("spinners" due to little injection pimples on one face; has been corrected (iirc) in later revisions of the mold/production process), and I ruined a couple of labels with the exacto-knife because I couldn't get them off! They seem to "cure" just sitting in air, and also seem to become more rigid (less flexible) after application. Definitely no worries of them coming off during normal use (even after oiling).

As for the feel, you should definitely get samples. All clay chips feel a bit different. For example, ASM chips are probably the hardest clay chip, followed by BCC, then Paulson, then TR King. All of them are top-quality chips; just different. These PI Chinese clays are pretty soft; I could very easily scrape off injection pimples and any excess clay in the mold (around some of the "L" markings) using the blunt end of the exacto-knife, and could even scratch off some sharper features in the mold with my fingernail if I really try hard. They're closer to Paulson than BCC in that respect - maybe even softer than Paulsons; definitely softer than the new home Paulsons (since NPS), which are significantly harder than older Paulsons.

I haven't directly compared the sound (these chips are at work and my other sets and samples are at home), but I'm guessing it's similar to Paulson. Definitely more of a "clack" than a "click".

Did you conduct all of these tests in the lab? If so, you're blinding me with SCIENCE!

Did you read where I dissolved a Paulson "Cherry Casino" chip in a beaker of acetone? That was a sad day...
