"Pokermunken" Sun-Fly Ceramics

* October 3rd*
My chips arrived today, Sun-Fly remade the complete order. I was happy with the 500 chip before, now I'm VERY happy. 100 and 1000 chips look exactly like my mock-ups. Thanks to Matt/MrChip and Joe of Palmimports. Sent a copy of my file to Joe, not sure if he sent it to Matt->Sun-Fly.

New chips top row.

/Lars the extremely happy friar.
* /update*

Chips arrived a couple of days earlier than the 3 weeks promised, nice...

Mock-up thread: http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/custom...-mock-ups.html

Was aiming for a happy friar and bright cartoony colours. Just a day or two after making the order Matt (MrChip) sent me pictures of samples made. They looked great not making the looong wait any easier.
Sample:

A couple of stacks out of focus..

A closer wiew..

Trusty old scanner used to compare colours.

Happy Friar:
* The price, MrChip sells at a great price.
* Right number of chips arrived sooner than expected.
* The 500 chip looks very close to mock-up.
* I like the ceramics stack better than my NexGen Bee's.
* They look good on screen.
* And they are all mine.

Sad Friar:
* 1000 and 100 chip is too dark, not sure what happened. Sample picture looked great with the 3 chips side by side. The Friar is the same in every chip yet the robe (and of course the other colours as well) is darker on the 1000 and 100 chip making the chips looking "greyed out" and dull.
* Black "Ink-spots" spattered across close to 1/5 of the 100 chips, the others are basically ok, although the 1000 friar seemed to have a chipped tooth in the scan.
* Thin white lines on the edges of a few black and purple chips, guess my graphics couldn't cover the entire edge. Wish it had been spotted in printing. Never seen anything like it on any sample I have.
* Edge spots on the 100 chips is a little busy, my fault.

Conclusion: I probably should have waited a few hours before posting this. I'm a little dissapointed now. 500 chips is looking great, not to happy about the printing of the 100 (spotty chips) and the dark 100 and 1000 chips.

/Lars

Re: "Pokermunken" Sun-Fly Ceramics

I'm assuming that you didn't do a test (beta) run of color matching before doing the final "production" run of all chip quantities?

I think they look great!

Re: "Pokermunken" Sun-Fly Ceramics

I like the designs and setup...sorry to hear about the production issues.

My BR Pros had similar color fade/matching issues but no ink speckling and I can blame myself for the colors because I never asked for in person sample runs like I should have.

Frankly, I'd ask for another run to get rid of the speckling though and the white ring issues that seem to effect a fair percentage.

Re: "Pokermunken" Sun-Fly Ceramics

Dark colored chips are notorious for printing TOO dark-- they require color balancing-- we go through this alot--which is why we try and prototype orders ahead of time- especially with dark prints.

I know Matt had these done but we all work together so if you want- send me the images of the chips that printed too dark and we can make corrections here for you-then send the files to Matt for submission back to Sunfly.

Matt if ya catch this post if you can handle the color balance issue let me know-- if not we can do it here--

I'll send you a PM and explain what has to be done
Otherwise I think they look real good.

You are correct, and thanks.

I need some sleep now, perhaps I'm to harsh about the chips. But aren't we all?

The chips will see action this weekend, I don't think I'll hear (m)any complaints about the chips, they are nice and the room is dark .

Sorry about the production issues, but what a NICE design.

Also, I can assure you that all of the things that bother you about these chips will not even be noticed by the people you play with.

Re: "Pokermunken" Sun-Fly Ceramics

I loved you design, and these chips are not that bad... that being said I see your problems. After all the design work and then after the wait... I would be pissed as well. I would take PI up on his offer for sure, or let Matt do the (re)work... I am sure that you will be happy with them in the end. Just don't point out any problems to your players and see if they notice them.

On a sidenote I never noticed the black specks on the 1000 till you pointed it out, then you mentioned the 'chipped tooth' on the friar... I laughed, I'm sorry but it looks funny.
