about the copyright, if he is buying the chips from someone, then surely that someone is selling the chips to him. Someone is therefore commercialising making money from the dmb design.

Actually, I don't really care about the copyright issue...and I would guess that the right-holder wouldn't care, and may even be happy to see it used by a fan. I just find it incredibly ironic that after all the crap sun-fly and ahopen took for copying designs - and all the rhetoric about how we should buy American because American companies respect copyright laws - that there are three threads one page 1 from one American vendor that would seem to my unexpert eye to obviously violate copyrights.

There's this one, the commemorative chip with the Steelers design, and the exact copy of a chipco chip with the "CI" photoshopped out (photo since removed after I commented on it).

I think it's amazing how we can spend 20+pages complaining about how Chinese companies copy others' chips, and then completely ignore and/or support American companies that do exactly the same thing.

A few quick comments (mostly meaningless) then let's put it to rest.. First... I don't know if someone could copyright a firedancer, it is something that has been around for a long time, it would be like trying to copyright a Phoenix.

Secondly, in this specific instance, in a case where I would venture to say that Dave Matthews most valuable asset, his music, is freely shared with his fans that
want to tape his shows, that making poker chips using a symbol that has come to represent his band, is more or less a non-issue provided they are not being mass marketed by a company (from china )

Granted, I was not one of those on a soap box during the sun-fly diatribe, so I am much less sensitive to these issues, my feeling is that if something is part of the public consciousness, then replicating it for personal use is, well, a very small issue in the grand scheme of things...and I would include sports teams logos, movie names/logos, and many other things under that umbrella. just remember, as per post #1 in this thread, i spent alot of time pursuing peace, love and happiness!

I don't really have a problem with what you've done. In fact, the best part of this thread was your one liner...no recollection..haha.

I just wanted to point out the ridiculous double-standard. People, including the proprietor, were talking about banning sun-fly for unknowingly copying chips. Now, there are three threads celebrating how great a job one specific American company is doing copying others' designs.
