They're really bothering me, though. I can see the 25/100/500 "both ways", but for the 1/5/xyz I can only see an open wall with 3 stacked cubes. It's really frustrating me trying to see it as a 3D cube with 3 stacked cubes taken out....I just can't do it.
I wonder why that is. I thought it was the rotation of the chips in your scan and the shading being different but I rotated my monitor and that didn't help. Pretty odd.
I'd definately end up just staring at these chips and lose track of the game. |

| There is an easy reason for this. Your eyes (and brain) are used to seeing light coming from above, creating a shadow below. In the photo, the shading of the 25/100/500 chips have cubes with the lighter panels above and the more shaded panels below...very natural for your perception of 3D objects. The other three that seem strange are opposite, with the shading above giving the illusion that the light source is from below. If those chips were rotated so they all had the light panels above, it would all look correct, but only if they ALL are the same way. Having different sources of light within the same photo is quite confusing. Is this at all clear, or did I make a mess of the explanation?

Chips: 532 | | | Re: Custom Chipcos: Cube Illusion You're right. When I scanned the chips I didn't take the time to align them all so the light area was at the top. The coloring of all the chips is light-medium-dark in a clockwise progression, so it is possible to arrange the chips with light faces on top.
Look at the mockup: http://www.homepokerchips.com/artwork/Johnston1.gif
If you tilt your head to your left shoulder, you will probably see the big cube with cubes taken out of it. If you tilt your head to your right shoulder, you will probably see the walls with little cubes. As mentioned, this is largely because we are used to illumination from the sun.
In actual play, the chips will fall on the table every which way.
