Hello there!
Since this is my first post, I want to start off by saying this board is fantastic and full of great information...what an awesome community.
A little background for you...
I know NOTHING about poker...at all! A friend and I were dicussing gift possibilities and customized poker chips came up. The idea grew over the course of a few minutes. We decided this would be the PERFECT gift.
Please understand the time crunch: We decided and ordered on August 7th...needed to be complete by August 14th...
I went to the web and found VIPtrading.com and Pokershoppe.com. I fell in love with the aluminum case with black lining (300 chips). However, VIP couldn't guarantee the black lining...it could be green also. Green would NOT do...this is for a rock and roll poker set...must...be...black and silver...lol. Long story short...I ordered the Diamond Chips from VIP and the 400 chip aluminum case from Pokershoppe.com. (Excellent service and product from both, btw)
I somehow found this site...thank goodness! Thanks to Cin0s3's article "How to Design and Print Custom Poker Chip Labels" and Matthews "How Many Colors & What Breakdown", I was on my way. And thanks to all who have posted pictures of their chips...defnitely inspired me.
I ordered labels from data-labels.com and downloaded their template.
While waiting for my products, I started to get more familiar with photo shop and came up with the chip design. I'll explain a little about the theme:
The band's name is Pray for the Soul of Betty. They are from New York City. A few of their sayings/mottos: Music = Freedom and NYC Homegrown Rock and Roll.
I didn't go with the normal casino colors and denominations because I wanted all band members to have the same amount of chips...
Grey - Lead Guitar, Red - Drummer, Green - Bass, Blue - Vocalist (get it? $10 = perfect 10 = Hot! ... yes, I'm female...lol)
I chose the denomination side picture to be NYC traffic in the background. Music = Freedom background is a brick wall...to sort of look like grafitti on the wall...
Anyway, the 400 chip set is done...labels on and everything...in less than 1 week...under the deadline!

I think they turned out pretty good for my first batch. But, I wish I would have had more time to try to get the "bleeding" right so you wouldn't see when the alignment was off, and if I had more labels, I would have re-designed the denomination sides. But, all in all, I think the gift will be well-received.
Just wanted to share with everyone since you appreciate chips here.
And to say THANK YOU...because I would have never been able to pull this together without this wonderful community!!!
Oh, I also found the PERFECT tool to press down the edges of the labels...a Christmas tree light bulb...seriously! I took a picture of it so you know what I mean. It fits perfectly in the groove.
I do have a question...I'm not sure about the etiquette of placing the chips in the case. Any advice? I put them in to match the colors...but I don't think it looks right. There is room for 60 chips in 6 slots and 20 chips in 2 slots. Any input would be appreciated.
25¢=100, 50¢=100, $1=50, $2=50, $5=50, $10=50 Realistically, will these amounts work if playing with 5 or 6? Of course, it's too late for me to change it, just wanna know if it's practical or not...lol.
