Where to start?

So after going around in circles ive decided to go with custom chips from Palm Imports, mainly due to ttttubby with the awesome looking chipsets he posted in another thread, ive not decided wether to go with the 8v's or the edgespot clays yet but its between those 2. My main question is where do i start regarding the custom inlay/label? I have no idea on designing or even where to begin, basically i want to go to Palm with some sort of idea and dont want to email them asking silly questions (like im doing now!) My set will include a basic layout of JD Poker Club with maybe my website around the circumference and the values on each chip, 125x 25p, 100x £1 and 75x £5. Im open to ideas of some graphic in the centre maybe but cant think of anything relevent at the moment! Is it my responsibility to go to Palm with print ready artwork or would they work with me on this, im a total nOOb to this if its not completely obvious but i feel im beginning to get somewhere, ive at least wittled it down to 2 choices of chip! Cheers for any help in advance

Re: Where to start?

I think Palm has an in-house artist for an extra fee, but honestly you'll probably get a better result if you hire one of the designers on CT for the job. Or just play around in Photoshop and post your artwork here for comments, personally I've always really enjoyed the designing part of the process.

Re: Where to start?

Have you received samples of the chips from Palm? - I seem to recall in another thread that you were not too impressed with the china clay Pharoahs and, if this is the case, then the clays that PGI have are similar (I believe - I don't have any myself). OR are you going ceramic? When you mention printing aroung the circumference, do you mean on the edge of the chip? - as this is only possible with ceramics not 8v or china clays.

WRT the design, you have 3 options -
Do it yourself if you have the necessary skills - PGI will be able to tell you which formats they accept;
Get PGI to do it in-house for a fee;
Or, start a designer wanted thread. Some excellent designers here who will tell you how much their work will cost to put your ideas on paper. Many have worked with PGI already.

There are a couple of threads on here (probably in the PGI forum) which set out how Joe wants to do business with designs/formats/copyright issues/paperwork required etc following the S!LKS fiasco. I think that they are still valid, but, if you contact Joe at Palm, I'm sure he will tell you exactly what he requires if it is not covered in his forum threads.

One final thing - are you sure your breakdown is correct? Presumably you will be playing 25p/50p cash games with these chips. You may find that you will need more £1 than 25p chips if you play no-limit. I would look to go 100 x 25p; 125 x £1; 75 x £5; or even 60 to 80 x 25p chips depending on how many players you will have (I assume 6 max). You might also want to consider 15 or so £20 chips and reduce the £5 chip numbers to give a larger bank (or does PGI only sell in batches of 25, I can't remember?)

Unless your game plays tight, you can manage with 12 or 16 chips of the lowest denom per player. If your game is limit or lots of min raises, then you may consider more of the 25p chip. Just to give you more things to ponder

Re: Where to start?

Cheers for the response toon, yeah its defo the clays im going for not ceramic, your right tho i wasnt too impressed with the Pharaohs but i didnt HATE them, much of my dislike was probably down to the fact they were damaged though with the knife marks in them, when i say circumference yeah i mean around the inside not outside, i know you cant do this on clay chips. Regarding the chip breakdown, thats one of the few things i dont need help with lol As my 300 chip set we use just now is perfect, if i were to take away a few of the lesser 25p's i know i would have a moan fest on my hands as lets just say a select few of my buddies just love to have loads of these in their satrting stacks, dont ask me why but they do! The £20 chips are a good idea though and ill defo enquire about having a few of them but if its going to cost extra a/w fees etc ill just give them a miss. Starting a designer thread seems to be what im looking for, i didnt even know i could do this! I take it i just start a thread in the correct sub forum and i would receive pm's from select designers regarding costs etc? Cheers again

I think that you start a thread in the Custom Chip Design - Request for Hire forum. There are a couple of stickies you may want to read on there first which explain the process.

D'oh, reading fail on my part. This thread is in the correct forum and if you edit the title to request help, someone will contact you about it, I assume.
