Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

Thanks for the compliments first of all

I think you are really right about that left, red part of the building - the perspective doesn't really work here. I'll have to change that..
As far as the "unrealistic" colors are concerned, I kinda like that. It has this comic-like look and I fear it could appear a bit boring and monotone, if I only used tanish and sandish colors here. My idea is to change the color of those parts that are radiant red right now according to the different denoms used. Let's see, how this looks.
So I'll spend another couple of hours and show you the results

You'll need to change the perspective a little to do this. If you like it the way it is, then i would only change the very back left portion (the accentuated red arch is a little out of perspective.

3. How large did you make the center graphic? The lines look a little choppy.

Other than that, it has some serious potential! Nice job)

Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

This may help Free Actions for Adobe Photoshop - Cartoon Effects. Also, the English version of Pixia will do some amazing things. Learning curve is a little steep since all the help is translated from Japanese, but might be worth the time.

You may also want to try some of the built-in Photoshop filters. For example, the cutout filter gives a "cartoonish" look.

Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

I love the Cantina idea, however the design does look a little choppy. Kinda like an Atari game. I would stick to using one to two colors for the graphic. One for the buildings and one for the the shadowing.

Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

It looks nice. I think you can get a good cel-shaded cartoony effect using Posterize. I use elements myself so I don't have that effect available to me. but i do have a cool effect called Poster Edges, which gave me the following effect after smudging the edges also.

Personally I think it would be awsome to use the denom sign for Imperial Credits instead of the dollar sign but thats just me. GL!

Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

Boom,

thanks for that approach, it looks really nice! I tried something on this effect, too.. But for now I like the "mosaic" effect best - it makes the whole thing a bit more abstract and this is to what I've come so far [again, what do you all think? ]:

Besides, I love the Imperial Credit idea, I already thougt about this, but do you know where I find this symbol?! It looks a bit like a seven, right?

Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

I like the idea, but I don't think that you can tell what it is AT ALL. Also, I think that it is going to be really, really small. Probably smaller than you would like. Try printing it out to see what it will really look like.

I would start with a large image of one of the buildings, and then run the mosaic effect, and then shrink that image. It looks like you started with a small image and ran the effect, therefore leaving you with a few polygons that don't really resemble anything.

Re: New to photoshop, help needed!

Here is an option for a Star Wars font (not the best, but pretty good)

Star Jedi Font | dafont.com

another possibility:

Star Wars Galaxies - Fonts
