Some questions regarding my design and Illustrator

Hi there...
i need some help on my design or how i can edit it the way i want to in Illustrator.
I have the following questions:
1. I want to align the objects (denom, roman number etc.) to the round text on the Inlay. I know i have to select the objects to align in illustrator. But how do i choose which of the two selected objects should be moved?
2. How can i make the ends of the the circle-cutout between "felix´cardroom" and "tournament" round? The area where the circle has been cut off is sharp now.
I am not sure if you can understand what i mean...my english vocab reaches its borders when i need technical terms.
Here is the design i am talking about:

If memory serves, you can lock the object that should NOT move, and that will make the other one move in relation to it.

There are little buttons in the Stroke pallet that will give your lines round ends.

Re: Some questions regarding my design and Illustrator

Felix' Cardroom is incorrect use of apostrophe for possessive.
It should be Felix's Cardroom.

If your circle arcs are part of a complete circle and part of the circle is being hidden under your text, then you won't be able to get the ends of the arc to be rounded. You have to use the knife tool to cut away the parts of the circle you don't want. Then, as mentioned, find the Stroke palette and choose the rounded ends option.

The answer to alignment is correct. First you must lock the item that you don't want to move. Then you can align the other thing to it. Or, you can align the items to each other first, then set the 0 point of your rulers at the center of your chip, then align your newly aligned things to center on 0.

Re: Some questions regarding my design and Illustrator

Thank you for your help guys!
I think i´ve got it now.
What do you think about the Inlays? Anything that still looks wrong or has to be improved? I would be glad to hear a second or even a third opinion about them.
Here is the whole setup:

And here´s a pic of the latest test-print i made with my poor equipment:

Looks pretty good. I personally don't care for the black background color, especially on the yellow chip. How about faded background colors matching the body color of each respective chip?

I had thought about that in the second attempt i made to label those, but i am not sure how good the color-matching will get, as far as i don´t have RGB-codes for the chips base colors. I thought of making the whole background in chipcolor. But if the color matching doesn´t match at least 95% the outcome may look quite cheapish, like i wanted to but havent been able. So i decided to rather take the safe road. Also since i am livin in germany, it wouldnt be as easy to get one test-print after another until the colors match well. Would be a lot work for Joe also, who is already stuffed with work.

Re: Some questions regarding my design and Illustrator

In FELIX'S you have used an acute accent symbol (´) that is too high and too flat instead of an apostrophe symbol (’). Can you get the curly apostrophe symbol on your keyboard?

I am not sure if that symbol is even available in the Font. But i think i will just try to turn it into the correct direction manually.
Thank you for the hint, Chips with spelling mistakes SUCK

Re: Some questions regarding my design and Illustrator

Yes, you can rotate it.

First you need to change your text to OUTLINES. That will affect all the text, so don't do it until you are sure of everything.

Then you might have to UNGROUP so that you can just adjust the apostrophe.

You can rotate it by selecting it and then using rotate tool. Experiment with a degree value that you like.

Then do this the same for all the chips.
