Obversity - Need help/critique

Hi again,
Thx for everyone's input on the front of my chip...I am now onto the other side. This is what I have so far:

I'm a newb at AI, so I'm struggling with how to make this happen...but I'd like to make the background of the obverse inlay the same color as the "M" on the front inlay, and subsequently make the spade black. I "borrowed" the spade graphic from someone's avatar , and don't know how to manipulate it...any guidance is most appreciated.

Secondly, I'd like some feedback on the text placement. Any suggestions on how it should be placed on the chip? Another text options is, "A Member of The Brandt Family of Resorts," or any other ideas you might have.

Really appreciate the support!

Re: Obversity - Need help/critique

Hi :bag:,

I think the layout of the obverse side is really good, actually.

The spade looks a little "pixely" to me actually - I might try to find another image. Or, you might need to do a live paint/live trace on the original object to convert to a vector image, then increasing the size won't result in a pixelated image (under the object menu). If it's a .jpeg or .gif sometimes there will be an outline or box around the image after you convert it, and you can delete these paths, so you only have the spade image. To change the colour, use the eyedropper to select the "M" colour, then drag the grey colour that appears in the box on the left control menu into the area of the spade.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, luckychick. I pinged develvjd for a high-res image of it...he's going to look. All of the other stuff you mentioned is new territory, but i'm going to take a stab at it. thanks for the guidance!

You might not need a high res image if you convert the image to a live trace before re-sizing it. Vector graphics are not subject to the resolution problems that .jpegs or .gifs are.

Let me know if you have questions. All my illustrator experience is trial and error, but I'll do what I can to help.

I dig the design for its simplicity.

Here is another spade you may want to tinker with.

Re: Obversity - Need help/critique

Looks much better... Try exporting your image as a png instead of a jpg. The red won't "wash" out so much and it'll all be more clear.
