As far as my username or something like that, not a fan of that idea. I've been using Shadow/Shadow520 for years, but it was just something I used that stuck. Although integrating something like "Terry's Poker Room" could work as well.
I am open to other ideas. Metro Detroit Poker Series is what we call our monthly poker tournament league. But there is no law saying we have to use that!
I'm still investigating, but I'm leaning towards ceramics from Palm Imports. I haven't seen their Hybrid ceramics. Might have to look at those. I am very price aware, tho, as with great as a price Palm has, they are still over what I had originally planned to spend (labels and nexgens). Better to do it once tho, and not have to do again in a couple years!
And I definitely plan on getting samples/prototypes! |

We'd be glad to try and help you out with some designs. |

I have samples coming of the ceramics and the hybrids. I will know for sure which ones I want to go with once I see them and get final pricing info from Joe.
But here's more design information:
If I go with custom ceramics, I'm thinking of taking the Detroit skyline (as seen in the sample label in the OP) and turning it into an edge stacker design instead (using 4 chips). Perhaps opposite that on the edge put "Metro Detroit Poker Series" (one word per chip, from top down), with denomination between 2 edge spots in between them. As for the top/bottom, my wife suggested using various casino games, a different one for each denom (craps, roulette, 21, slots, poker, etc). We used "Royal Prince Casino" on labels for a casino chipset I have, but I'm thinking just "Prince Card Room and Casino" or something like that for a name. I want to use standard colors for the chips ($5: Red, $25: Green, $100: Black), for $500 we use Purple, and $1000 is white, currently. The $1000 chip can be changed (Blue?) to something that will stand out from the others.
Hope this helps. Comments, concerns, sample designs anyone?
Thanks! |

I would have to see the artwork to be sure, but I'm not too picky, I just want something that looks nice - something that precludes me from trying it!
Most casinos use white or blue for $1, and my casino set has blue as $1, so blue might not be such a good idea (even tho the chips could never be confused for each other!). Beyond black, tho, there doesn't seem to be "standard" colors for higher denoms (not that I have been fortunate enough to ever get my hands on them!). |

As for the design, I really like the style but they seem really dark. Part of it might be the font in the denom. I like the currency style but the black in the font makes them look really dark. If you treat it like an inlay/label with a colored border (traditional clay style) and not a full face mockup for ceramics, that should brighten it up IMO.
Other than that, I really like the skyline look though I'd be curious to see the border text a tad bit smalll as it looks a bit crowded.
Good luck with them. |

Good luck with them. | Thanks for the welcome.
The original design shown above was made as a label (for nexgens). However, I scrapped that idea and they are certainly not acceptible for ceramics, which is currently how I'm leaning. Hence, why I finally actually signed up and posted here (after "just looking" for quite a while). I have seen some of the work here and hoped I could get someone's creative juices flowing. My creative juices stopped flowing years ago! | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
