Design help for "The Shop"

Being extremely artistically challanged, I am in need of serious help. I have a pretty good idea of what I am looking for and even a rough example. However, I need your guys expert insight and help in creating a set of suctom bluechips and a logo/design for the wall and table felt.
Here is the example that has been created with some help
The items that I really like about this design are the sparkplug and the wings. I also like the ribbon that is located below.
Information to be included on the chips and logo:
1. denomination
2. wording "the Shop"
3. established date
4. possibly highway 47
The problems with this logo are that it is very difficult to read the wording. I'm not a fan of the outline and the actual image is one I "borrowed" from Hurley.
I'm not sure what the going rate is, but I'd be willing to pay whatever is appropriate.(please be kind, i am a starving teacher)
JD

Re: Design help for "The Shop"

It's a nice start. It has a classic hot rodder feel. It reminds me of something you might see at Viva Las Vegas. I agree the red lines have to go. The font can be changed easily. Someone here will take the ball and run with it.

Re: Design help for "The Shop"

Just doing that image on a blue chip giant inlay sized mockup, the text and small details are too small. I recommend altering the design to be a little more basic, taking the things you like best and sticking with them rather than multiple complicated elements. It is a great idea though and I love the theme.

Re: Design help for "The Shop"

Thanks guys. I was going for the hotrod theme. My father opened his shop in the late 60's and built national record holding NHRA dragsters for years. A group of us began playing cards in the shop in the early 90s. My problem is I have no idea or program to work on the image at all.
Any help you guys can offer would be great.

What program do you use to mock them up? I've managed to use all of my free trials on graphic software and am not smart enough to figure out how to use them. Any advice you can give would be great.

That's bada$$. Do you have any pics from back then? I'd love to see some.

Re: Design help for "The Shop"

Tons and Tons. However, I don't have a scanner and they are all shoved into a giant chest.
He set several superstock records in the late 70s and early 80s.
I'm too young to remember most of the experiences. However, one story that I will tell is about 15 years ago, We were in Indiana @ Lingenfelter's(apparently a big name in racing) shop. I had the opportunity to meet Bobby Knight, Dale Sr. and some awkward kid named Jr.
