Chips: 1,555 | | | OK I'm joining the club - here's my AA story.
Was playing in the PokerStars 4000 FPP WSOP qualifier yesterday. I finally get around to playing this tournament from a win at the previous qualifier over a month ago.
It's just after the 1st hour of the tournament. This guy who has been uber aggressive at my table has been stealing pots all day long and had a 2x stack to my own. He plays just in front of me (to my right).
On this particular hand I got AA (woot!). I was just hoping this guy would bet into this pot and sure enough he does (a 4x raise). Instead of raising him (like I should have), I just called him and end up heads up vs him. I didn't want to show the strength of my hand in order to get him to put a bunch in.
I should have put him all-in but I but I wanted to slow milk this guy. I wanted to make him believe I was calling with a drawing hand.
The flop comes up 8-5-2. The guy bets 2x and I raise him 3x his bet. He calls. OK so I did show strength here after feigning weakness early.
The turn comes up a Jack. The guy checks and I bet 1/2 the pot. He calls - hmmmmm. My spider senses are tingling.
The river comes up a 4 and he bets a small amount. I call. I feared the trips from early on but had to see it. By by this time I had put in over half my stack.
We flip and he had pocket 4's and rivered the set. So he didn't have the set until the river card. Grrrrr!!!!!!! How could he stay in that long?!
Needless to say I didn't recover after that and my stack soon disappeared.
I beat myself over the head for not reraising him big pre-flop. But knowing this guy - he probably would have called anything - so at least I didn't lose my whole stack to him. |

Sometimes in tournaments you need to slowplay a bit to build the big pots and big your chip count. Once there's that good action on the flop, I probably make a bigger (pot) sized bet on the turn while praying the loose guy didn't make a set.
I was playing in a tournament on Saturday with a bunch of 2+2'ers and raised 4x twice with KK and only picked up the blinds. At least once two of 'em said they would have played for 3x. At that point I definitely needed to take a bigger chance to double up or at least take down a big pot on the flop. |

Chips: 1,861 | | | you played it fine chipper... I like the call on the end. Only thing I could think was a better play was pushing when the jack came and just HOPE he holds something like AJ. Your ESP was tingling but there's no way you could have known he RIVERED his set.
sucks.

Chips: 1,037 | | | I can't help but join in the fun here tonight - it would be wrong not to. After all, I tried the slow play/trap concept twice with the AA (-ev BTW) pocket in tonight's tourney - only to get beat out by the fall of the cards AND w/ only one caller. I still can't believe No Huevos caught that 4???? It's becoming my signature hand - the missed out closed str8 draw. If I lay it down it rolls, if I play it... WTF, everone else is catching gutshot draws... |

in that position - "i'd also be mentioning something about give me all of your chips" depends on the stakes, but i would drive an humvee2 into the river day or night. w AA. so be it/ cracks kk. maybe a flush or some varbot playing 72.
know your opponent. its not cheap.
a word of thought, after missing the one i would have focues on busting em out the 2nd/3rd another time around. if i read this thread right. teach the for calling everytime. +/-EV - you'll get em w. AA no doubt

Chips: 6,503 | | dimperdoo, had I not seen those two hands with my own eyes I would not have beleived it. It would be nice if you could count on AA winning at least once for you; they look so good when you first spot them in your hand, don't they? Next time they will hold up for you though, I have a feeling.

Chips: 1,037 | | ironically the guy who lucked out on the 4outs draw (hitting a 4 for the str ended up winning the tourney - he was all-in to my bigger stack at the time too. |

Chips: 4,535 | | | I also saw Dimperdoo's twice AA's and couldnt believe he got beat not once but twice with them. But as we all know to quota Dimperdoo himself
{The universe is fickle. } I have also had AA's fail me . More times then I can count in live games and on line. All I can say is it has made me re-think my play with high cards in my hand. As for Dimps fall twice with those AA's it will come back to you sooner or later to be an assured win. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
