Maybe I should put somewhere in the OP that it has to be your first or second table build. I can see this guy is a carpenter by trade and i want to make this is fair as possible for people. Some people dont have these kinda skills, nor the time to complete this kinda project.
Any Ideas Noel? to make this as fair as possible... |

the only story behind this table is that after building a few tables, this table combines both functionality and also good looks. Too many tables either look good, but its hard to play on them , stack chips, or deal. Other tables are too plain looking, but play perfect.
I call it this one "chocolate cappachino"

Chips: 267 | | | Re: Submit pics of your home made poker table contest.......phase #1 My wife and I moved into a new home in Jan of 2007. The house has a 'maids' room with a separate entrance and an office area on the second floor landing. She laid claim to the maids room for her acupuncture office, so I laid claim to the office area on the second floor. I silently thought the office area would be a great poker room. So I did a ton of research on building a poker table (props to Scott Keen and Quads) and off to Home Depot I went. I bought 3 sheets of ply, screws, wood glue, spray glue, stain, poly and everything else I needed. I called YAT and ordered the black whisper vinyl, rail foam, volara foam and bronze speed cloth. I began building the table in my garage when it was 20 degrees outside. I froze my a$$ off, got about 40 splinters in my hands, got sawdust in my eyes the one time I forgot my glasses, dropped the plywood on my foot, threw my back out moving the plywood, almost drilled through my finger and generally pissed off the wife for making a complete mess in our nice new garage. Needless to say I had to keep my car outside in the freezing weather until I finished the woodwork. Getting in the car in the mornings was not fun!!
The concept for cutting the arcs seemed very simple, but the practice was a bit tough. I am very good a measuring and planning and despite difficulties in the end the arcs were nice and round. I used a home made jig and a jigsaw. At first I used a thin blade which bent and almost caused a mini fire. Then I used a thicker blade, but that cause some splintering. So, I taped the wood along the cut lines and no more splintering. Noice!!!!
I showed my wife the woodwork and the felt that I was going to use. She was impressed by how the table was coming along and then asked, "Where are you putting that?" I said I was putting it up in the office. "UM, NO! You can put that in the basement. Then you and your poker buddies can make all the noise you want." I protested. Yeah, by the way the basement poker room pics will be up shortly.
So, off to the basement I went with the table to put the vinyl and felt on. I followed the directions from Junell and it was pretty easy. I also put poly on the racetrack. (I did not stain it because I liked the natural light color.) This was a nightmare. I could not get the racetrack to be nice and shiny. I followed all of the recommendations. Finally, 7 coats later, I got the look I wanted.
I ordered the table legs from Rockler. I stained them English Oak (I think!). I had some help from Quads with the mounting. Worked like a charm.
I have to say that even though I am pretty handy, this was a bit difficult because I lacked the better tools required. Next time I am getting a good jig and a router.
Here's the finished product....
Ignore the bare walls and boxes. I now have painted walls, etc. The room should be close to done this weekend and I will post pics.

Chips: 210 | | | Re: Submit pics of your home made poker table contest.......phase #1 OK, so I know I wont win, but this was the first table I made with no help and very limited supplies from any stores around here in Japan. It is probably the nicest one for many many kilometers and 80% of the homes in Japan, it wouldnt fit anyway. Ive never built anything bigger than a chess board in my life, so I thought it was pretty good to have never done anything like it before. The only thing I would like to do is change the rail to more padding and a diferent material to cover it with... It gets used for more of a living room storage table most of the time since it is the only table I have. Im proud of it, and its the only professional style poker table Ive played on here in Japan. ........... |

If my computer had a 42 inch widescreen format, I just MIGHT be able to see this entire table. Maybe you could reduce these so it fits on a normal monitor? This thread is now very difficult to navigate due to this picture. PS: I think I may have done the same thing in another thread and need to fix mine too. |
