Chips: 1,714 | | | My 1 year CT anniversary giveaway It's a celebration b******!
Today marks one orbit around the Sun as a chiptalk member for me. Time to give something away. So you want some chips? Too bad. You ain't getting any. Unless you want to dig the chocolate ones out of some tasty holiday confectioneries.
Every year I make cookies as holiday gifts for friends and family. I've met a lot of people here that I would consider friends so I am going to cut one lucky member in on the action. I change the selection every year and don't know what will be on the menu yet, but it suffices to say that they will be heavy on the chocolate and nuts.
You can ask Ranman or anyone at the 2nd Northeast Meet-up about my baking prowess. Speaking of which, get yourself to butterflynlambie's house on Dec. 1st for number 4. I'm bringing dessert. Here's how to play the game. Guess the total amount, in weight, of the chocolate, nuts and sugar I will use this year in all of the recipes combined. Usually 5-8 varieties. I will provide the recipes for verification. If you are still baking by volume, get a scale. It is one of the few tools that will immediately improve your results. An oven thermometer and insulated cookie sheets are the others. I would give up my stand mixer before those tools. Because international shipping takes forever, and domestic is slow near the holidays, this contest is only open to members in the lower 48. I will be using priority or 2-day shipping. One guess per member and no editing. This contest will stay open until I choose my cookies, which will probably be not long after Dec. 1. The winner will have to wait until I start baking which will closer to the holidays. Good things come to those who wait. Good luck. I am also looking for tips on packaging cookies for their perilous journey through the mail.

It's funny you mention using weight instead of volume. All of my great-grandmother's receipes contain weights. (300g flour, 125g sugar...although I guess "mass" would be more correct than "weight" in this case...I digress).
Tough contest...
36 lbs
edit: Congrats on 1 year
