Hawaiian Gardens (SoCal) 60K Tournament Saturday 2 pm

Has anybody played at any of the tournaments at the Hawaiian Gardens before? Experiences and opinions?

What's the crowd like and has anybody cashed at HG?

I'm thinking of going there tomorrow. It's $300 + $40 registration. No rebuys.

I play there fairly often, usually in the 100NL or 300NL. I've only played in 1 tournament there, and its mostly the same players. Generally I've found that (as I'm sure in most places) its full of action junkies who have no problem getting their money in bad and hoping for the best.

I generally find its just best to play pretty straight forward poker, play good hands, you will usually get paid off if not unlucky. I wouldn't try to make too many moves, players have no problem calling you down with second pair, bad kicker or even 3rd or 4th pair.

Thanks! Just got back from HG where I got trounced (I finished somewhere between 170 and 190 out of a field of 260).

I got short-stacked when I went in with A-Q suited against Q-Q (too bad!) and lost. From that point on it was just downhill and I just helped myself to whatever 99c discounted food they had. I must say, their food isn't bad at all.

I played at the $40NL while waiting for the tournament to start, and it wasn't too bad. Lots of young college pretty boys pitting their luck against hard-core Asian dudes. Pretty friendly mostly.
