What are the chances of organizing a freeroll where the winner gets chips or a chipset ?

Seriously though, in the past, we've had tournaments where entry buys you a chance at winning a set. Most times, people paypal the owner of the chips the fee, and then you'd just pay entry to the tournament. Joshuadalton has done it before for a set of Zen's, and there was another for a set of SCS chips. It's in the realm of possibility that a freeroll could happen, but I wouldn't bank on it.

Yea. We might be able to put up $10 a piece and possibly have a sponsor or somebody else pay the rest if necessary. If we get 40 people or so to pay $10, thats $400 worth of chips (had to get my calculator out for that one). 400 would be enough for a really nice 300 chip set. This has been tried before but Im not sure if it ever got off the ground.
Probably because the vendors here already give Chiptalk members good discounts on their chips and products, so there's no real incentive to give any away. Usually the tournament of champions for our Chiptalk thursday nite tourneys has some chips as prizes, at least they have in the past. That's one way to get some free chips, but you'll have to qualify and pay the entry fees for the tourneys.
