I just received a call from a chick at poker payday, I filled out a form about 3 weeks ago, but never gave my CC#. They said they were going to stake me $5,250 into 54 tourneys (mostly online), but I'd have to pay $99 for "processing fees".

I'm curious if anyone here has done this/or is this a scam?

I told the girl I'd call her back... You're supposed to wear their shirts and hats at live events, which will occur in Las vegas and AC, they give you travel vouchers...they keep 10% of your winnings. I asked her to send me the contract before I gave her any CC info...she said the $99 is to pay for the out-sourced contract company...

I've always been wary of things that sound too good to be true. I read a column on 2+2 about it, http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...7&Main=6255458 , it shows the contract, but no one has any real info.

I've been looking around and there isn't enough info to trust this company, fug it.

Tell them to just withold the $99 from your stake.

Aw, there probably fine print that says,

"For a $99 fee we will enter you into a drawing to be staked at...."

Ask them if they will take a faxed, 3rd party, out-of-state check, since your felonly record precludes you from using the US Postal Service for another 17 years.

Do the math, if they can stake you for over 5Gs, what do they need your $99 for.
If you want someone to stake you in tournaments, ask the players that you have been beating regularly at your home game if they want a piece of your action in a real tournament.

My brother said he was talking to David Bach in Athens and says David did that exact thing almost 2 years ago. Go look up his results in the cardplayer.com database. (Bach's not my brother's)
Said he sold shares in a $100g backing that would pay for a year's travel and entry fees, then structured the payback to give most to the investors for the first $150 (they break even), then progresivly gave more to him.

I'd just say the scam artists have just found a new rich vein of suckers (borderline poker players who think they could make it as a pro with just a little bankroll).

I am not doing it, I was curious if anyone had lost the money. I did a search on google and cam eup with very little (mostly ads for the company-hundreds of links) I'm sure there has to be a person with a horror story, I was curious if there was one here.

If it were'nt a credit card I'd almost be willing to blow the $100 just to see what happens... This is dead though, so I'm all set unless there's a horror story involved.

Have you even tried to call the number back? Odds are if it is a scam they may have given you a wrong number and that would make it easy for you to make a decision!
