On a related note, are there any Chiptalkers (I saw one post above) planning to participate in events at the WSOP this year? Anyone know the over/under on the draw for the main event? |

not sure how many chiptalkers are planning to play the ME, but i know there are several who will be in the preliminary events (2k and 5k).
i plan to play the 2nd 2k event, the following 5k event and the ME.

My gut says bet the over all day at 7,000, but I don't really know how the number of satellites (both online and at casinos) being offered for this year's main event compares to the number held last year. |

Chips: 512 | | | Re: 2006 WSOP Chiptalker Just wanted to throw this out there for consideration. I am in a league that already does something like this. We sent a player to one of the smaller WSOP tournamets last year and are doing so again this year. We play a weekly tournament named "The Road to the World Series of Poker". The way it works is every week we play a $20+2 tournament. 15 minute rounds on pokerstars. The winner is generally paid around $300.00, 2nd gets $220 3rd $100 (ballpark figures). Each week the top 3 finishers send in $30, $20, and $10 to the event organizer for 1st 2nd and 3rd respectively. At the end of the season the top 9 players battle it out at a "Final Table". The Final Table buy in is $50+5 (to help cover expenses). The winner of the final table gets all the money (in the form of buy in chips) collected from the top 3 finishers each week during the regular season.
If the winner of the Final Table cashes anything less than $10K, he or she keeps the winnings. If it is over $10K than that player MUST parlay that into a seat in the ME. If the player again cashes in the ME they keep the $10K buy in and then keeps 50% of his winnings. The remaining 50% is split up between the other 8 players that made the final table.
It has it's faults but to me it seems to be the fairest way to determine who gets to go to the WSOP from a country and even world wide community.
There you go, that's it.

How long would the season need to be?
Assuming you wanted a prize pool of about $2150 for a $2000 WSOP event, you would need about 30 players each week for about 36 weeks ($60 per week x 36 weeks = $2160), at a total cost of $792 in weekly entry fees per player for all 36 weeks. If you play 25-30 weeky tourneys, that'll run $550 to $660. Ok for some, not OK for others.
I assume that the scoring (for the final 9 showdown) would have to account for the fact that not everyone can play every week, as we do with the weekly CT tourney. |

It is for 1 entry to one of the $1500 buy in events. The total cost for buyins is around $550 for the season. However as many as 5 people are paid out every week. So only a person that never placed in the money is going to be stuck that much. Also most people here (like my other group) have at least some expendable income as we are into an somewhat expensive hobby. $20 a week is pretty cheap entertainment. For a larger buyin at the WSOP we may need to do a larger buyin or take a larger percentage from those that cash. However most people recover some of the buy in costs through the occasional cash finish.
As for the scoring, we use the standard PS scoring system. But we drop the 4 lowest scores for each person. This will allow people to miss several tournaments without it hurting their standing. After the 4 misses they just start taking " 0 " for that week.
I think it is a pretty good system and is realitively easy to manage.
