Second Guessing the CC&GTCC's Chip of the Year (COTY) Contest....

Greetings, most readers here will also recognize me as the OTY Awards Chairman of the Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club, Inc. (CC&GTCC). The OTY Awards are the CC&GTCC's annual Awards program to recognize the Best of the Year in four different categories, as follows:

Token of the Year (TOTY)
Silver Strike of the Year (SSOTY)
Slot Card or Room Key of the Year (CKOTY)
Chip of the Year (COTY)

Since chips are so near and dear to most of us here at ChipTalk, I thought I would do a non-binding Poll to second-guess the pending final result of the CC&GTCC's COTY Award contest.

Through a specific process, CC&GTCC members have nominated 10 Finalists, from which one will be selecetd as the Chip of the Year for 2006. Each of those Finalist is shown here, and I wanted to let the ChipTalk community have an opportunity to express their opinions on a favorite chip or two and conduct a Poll in advance of the final selection of Chip of the Year by the CC&GTCC Judges.

Here then are the Finalists, in no particular order:

A: Palms Casino Resort $100 Plaboy Club LE by Paul-Son in a house-mold.

B. Harrah's Laughlin, $2.50 "Dry Heat" LE (golfer) by Paul-Son in a H&C-mold.

C. Four Queens, $5 "Cancer Awareness" LE by Paul-Son in a house-mold.

D. Palms, $5 "Independence Day" LE by Paul-Son in a house-mold.

E. Sarasota Kennel Club, $5 rack chip (One-Eyed Jacks) by Paul-Son in a RHC-mold.

F. Wynn, $8 "Year of the Dog" LE by Paul-Son in a house-mold (43mm).

G. Trump Plaza, $25 "Halloween 2006" LE by Paul-Son in a RHC-mold (w/lenticular animation)

H. Stardust, $5 "1958 - 2006 Celebration" LE by Paul-Son in a RHC-mold.

I. Four Queens, $8 "Year of the Dog" LE by Matsui in a PMSC* mold.

J. Bally's, $5 "25th Anniversary of Jubilee!" LE by Paul-Son in a RHC-mold.

Rose,

How do you NOT have all the "Dry Heat" issues?

(Note also, my website is acting up, in case the images fail to appear.)

Heck, it's pure happenstance that I have ANY of them! Truly, I backed my way into this collection. I started out after the $5 moto version, of course; then someone on HPT (I think) traded me one of my snappers for the "blackjack" chip. Skip (on thechipboard) sold me a mini-lot that included the New Years chip, then later, another mini-lot with the horse chip. Dave (also on thechipboard) saw my post where I mentioned that I had almost all of them, and sold me the golfer chip. So now all I need is the jackpot, and my collection will be complete.

I"m sure it'll wake up soon. It's worth the wait; seeing all those beautiful pieces in one place like that, gave me goosebumps. Especially that mondo kewl Palms SS!

Rose, NOT SO QUICK!!!

For you, it may have started with the $5 "Dry Heat," but the linkage to go from a $5 to a $2.50 (of the same theme) will be the same linkage of going from only having 5 of Harrah's Laughlin issued $2.50's to having all 6!!!

Are not aware of the first $2.50 in the series of snappers from Harrah's Laughlin?

It may not be "Dry Heat" themed, but like the "Dry Heat" snappers it is hot pink and is also a Limited Edition of 3,000! It set the color and the quantity of Harrah's Laughlin snapper LEs!

And to make matters worse!!!!! That first issue snapper is a 10th Anniversary commemorative. Now there is more linkage to go for the $5, 60th Anniversary of Harrah's LE, and on it goes.

Slippery Slope stuff here!

BTW-I have an extra of the 10th Anniversary. After you get the Slot Machine "Dry Heat" (what you are calling the Jackpot version) I will be happy to make that linkage jump for you.

J(GO)F

ps. If my website was working, I'd post a scan of the two snappers.

Seriously though, yer killin' me here. And by the way, thanks for setting me right on the name of the chip I'm missing; I was unsure of it. But this is all the more reason why I need The Chip Rack; as you know, these LEs aren't included in C&W's Chip Guide.

Can't wait to see the other end of the slippery slope...

Wow - can I be rotten and say none of these deserve chip of the year - is this really the shortlist of the best out there?

I like the kennel club chip and also the trump Halloween but the others are pretty dire IMHO. Maybe you have to see them in person.

Re: Second Guessing the CC&GTCC's Chip of the Year (COTY) Contest....

I really hope it is not the Palms Playboy $100 chip. It would be the 2nd Palms playboy chip that was a high denomination that I would have to own against my collecting taste.

The Palms put out a $50 Playboy 50th anniversary chip in 2003 that also won the COTY award. I don't really like the chip but I gotta have it in my COTY collection. This $100 chip would be spendy but at least it has Marilyn on it.

Great post Jim.
