Word out of Las Vegas today is that Michael Gaughan is buying the South Coast Hote & Casino from Boyd Gaming and Boyd said YES!
Some background... Coast Casinos (at the time: Barbary Coast, Gold Coast, Suncoast and The Orleans) was bought by Boyd Gaming and became a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of Boyd Gaming. At the time there were plans to develop a new property, called South Coast and thos plans went forward. As part of the purchase, Michael Gaughan was put on the Board of Boyd Gaming and basically, his life changed.
Recently he approached Boyd Gaming and lamented that he did not like the "corporate" life and yearned to get back into the trenches. He offered back his stock shares of Boyd Gaming (from the Coast Casinos buy-out) in exchange for the South Coast, and they said YES!
The deal is expected to conclude at the end of the year.
Since it is not unusual for a casino to re-rack following an ownership change, it is quite possible that we will see new chips at the South Coast!!
