Is this a "good chip" - Stardust $20

I need to ask for some help on this one ... I found this chip on eBay, but had concerns. All similar Stardust chips that I have found (eBay, MOGH, visual chip rack etc) have stars on the inlay. This one does not closed casino "stardust las vegas $20.00" chip | eBay . I wrote to the seller to ask if this was just a crumby photo, and was told that it wasn't supposed to have stars because it was a 4th issue - and that I should invest in a book.
(I have a Chip Rack book, but I'm not where I can look it up. Besides TCR has very few pictures)
Anyway ... Long story longer ... Is this seller just being a jerk? Or is this a legitimate variation of the chip?
Thanks!
Mike

I'm far from being an expert, but here goes:

I found a photo of the Stardust $20 here (MOGH). The stars are clearly visible. TCR (13th ed) shows only one issue of a $20 chip, the 4th edition, which would be the one pictured in the MOGH guide.

When I look carefully at the chip in the eBay auction, I can see very faint images of the stars. My guess is that either the silver ink used for the stars has faded to the point where it is barely visible, or the sellers' scaner washes out the silver color. I don't think that the seller is correct when stating that this particular version doesn't have stars, especially since even I can see them on his scan.

Hope this helps.

Re: Is this a "good chip" - Stardust $20

Abby99 - Thanks sooooo much for your reply. I assumed that there had to be something goofy with either the condition of the chip, or else the quality of the photo.

I have decided to forego this particular chip auction - and spend a little bit more $$$ to get one that I fell more comfortable with.

BTW ... I'll take your expertise over most others any day of the week! You have been extremely helpful to me, on a number of occasions, as I've started to learn about this hobby. I mean that with all sincerity!

Thanks again,
Mike

You're welcome, Mike. I think you made the best decision re this particular chip, especially considering that the seller wasn't giving you accurate information. Wait for a better example, or at least one where you feel that the seller is giving you good information.

I saw the same thing as Abby, the stars look worn out.

Around this time every sunday, Spinettis tends to put up a bunch of single chips on ebay and I usually see one of these in the mix that is mint or near mint. I've thought about buying one several times, its a beauty. Keep your eye out tonite and you may see it up there.
