$1 Excalibur House Mold

Anyone know the value on these. I don't think these are in play anymore.

Thanks,

$3 in new condition. This chip is off the tables, but there are still plenty around in the market.

Thanks for the help. How do you find the value of obsolete chips?

Re: $1 Excalibur House Mold

The Chip Rack 10th ed (released in 2004) lists and gives a prive for every Nevada chip released before 2003 (at least every known chip as at 2003 - some new discoveries have been made since).

The 3rd ed Official US Price Guide (released in 2005) lists chips from all over the US and gives prices, but is not comprehensive (ie it does not list every chip).

There are other guides, but nothing dealing with Nevada chips since the above 2. This is a much discussed topic on the Chipboard and a source of dismay fo many collectors, myself included.

I own the US Guide, but not The Chip Rack. I am happy to give you prices from the guide anytime.

If you want more advice regarding the value of casino chips there are many more qualified than I here on Chiptalk, or on the Chipboard.

Those books are good. I also use the Chip Guide.

You may want to check ebay too. There's probably a good handful of these listed and completed auctions. It will give you an idea on current market value.

Generally speaking, it is valued at $3 in uncirculated condition. However, this will start to change as the chip is now "obsolete" (they cannot be redeemed at the cage, which means they are no longer available from the cage) and as an "obsolete" it will command a greater value. That value will be $4 or $5 for the next 5 or so years.

I would not look for this chip to increase beyond that because...

In that style, the chip existed for at least 10 years and over that period of time, the casino was regularly re-ordering chips and destroying the worn ones. I often visited the cage and asked for new, uncirculated chips and they often had them. This means that over those years, many a collector got their chip and trades in uncirculated condition. Also, the dealers all got invemtory supplies of uncirculated chips, and during that period there were several dealers that came into the business and left. Chances are when they left, the inventory may not have gone back to the cage, but was passed to other dealers at face. (Hard to say for certain, but these are readily available.)
