Sahara Reno 10 cent

A few months ago I picked up a few racks of Sahara Reno $1 hotstamps. This auction is the only other chip from the same rack that I have seen:

Anyone know the background on these? The mold is different (the $1 is small-key and this is large-key) and I'm surprised to see the same logo-- my understanding is that the $1s were never used since the logo didn't include the full name of the casino, so how did these chips get made?

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming the .10 chip never saw play either? (for the same reason as the $1?)

Re: Sahara Reno 10 cent

Old thread but I have seen a few of these for sale on ebay

100 Real Clay Poker Chips $1.00 Sahara Reno Casino ** - eBay Individual Casino Chips, Chips, Casino, Collectibles. (end time 20-Sep-08 01:32:21 AEST)

any information on them? I have done some searches but not alot of info.

I have seen them listed as ASM chips? (hence the edge spackle from the brass

What are they like? nice feel? they do look a little smooth, do they have a similar feel to other ASMs?

thanks in advance for the help

Re: Sahara Reno 10 cent

They are nice, but light weight wise.
I used them for a $1/$5 cash set I had with Harolds club $5 chips

I loved the small greek key mold as well.

They're not ASMs. Spinetti's is the source. Check out their website for more info. Samples are cheap-- buy a stack before committing to a rack or more.

Re: Sahara Reno 10 cent

The auction link in the OP is broken so I've no clue what the .10c chip was that the thread title refers to.

Anyway, the only Sahara Reno chip that I'm aware of that Spinettis solid in quantity is the small key $1 hotstamped chip that was never actually in play at the casino. Not aware of any .10c chip they might have had and I don't see any such chip listed there now.

Here's the $1 version they still have at .50c each and they are the same as the auction apparently and for the same price too.

Re: Sahara Reno 10 cent

The 10c chips were never available in quantity AFAIK. Certainly not if they're $20-30/chip as bunny said. They had the same logo, hotstamped on pink LGKs (not SGK like the $1).

btw I don't think the edge speckle is brass, unless it's badly tarnished. Looks more like iron filings, or might even be residue from the mold, or something else from the manufacturing/shipping process.

Not a bad chip, especially for the price. I have 400 in mint conditition, and I keep wavering on whether to sell them or build a micro cash set using some of Josh's new MGKs.
