While "lack of etiquette" (making posts under other people's names) was a factor, I really believe that there was more to it than that. Something along the lines of dis-honest behavior.
Do you know if it was ever verified that an actual casino existed? These were continually presented as real casino plaques and chips, but I was unaware if the people that track these things could validate the claim.
Not that being a "real" casino is a requirement of collectability, but it does have an impact on value.
Even if the casino was not "real" then it still could have existed as an illegal operation, which would still give a collectability value to the items, but this was not claimed.
So, that then leaves a final option of the items being "fantasy". Again, certainly collectable, but not with the values being quoted, and especially when being represented as "real" casino issues.
Then, there seemed to be a certain degree of eBay peculiarity along the lines of a plaque being offered and bid up, WAY UP by several new accounts, one of which won the auction and then when another items was listed, the none-winner bidders failed to engage in any action and what supposedly sold for over a $1,000 failed to sale at $250.
While I am not providing the specifics details here (I'm going from memory), they are very well known by Cigarman, who has recapped the situation fairly nicely on TheChipBoard at:
Mr Sotto - I suggest you give it a rest !!!!!!!!!!
To learn more and be your own judge, just do a search there with keywords like "Iraq" "Baghdad Palms" or people names like "sutton" "hotshot" and "cigarman".
