Re: Most expensive?

I saw a $5 chip from the Last frontier circa 1940's go for $39,000 on ebay a few years ago.

I believe there are only 3 known to exist.

It looked like this but yellow and said 5 on the back.

Its hard to say exactly. There are some auctions that are public and we know the prices of those. We've seen higher end rare chips go in the 10-40K range. But there are also a lot of high-end collectors who have deep pockets and who want their purchases to remain private. So there are a lot of rumors but nothing substantial. Case in point is an AC chip that has changed hands a couple of times. Its the rarest of all AC chips as it is the only known fractional in a collector's hand. It was sold publicly, then the latest sale was private.

There's a third case as well. Recently (well 2yrs ago now) there was a large lot of chips that were sold. These were bought for a very high price and it was a mix of tokens and chips. So its really hard to say in that case what the most expensive chip was in that group.

Re: Most expensive?

The third edition of the Chip Price Guide lists these Top 10 sales:

1- Sands $100 9th issue $39,000
2- Sands $5 2nd issue $33,000
3- Riveria $25 1st issue $33,000
4- Sands $25 2nd issue $32,000
5- New Boulder CLub $5 6th issue $26,000
6- Sands $25 8th issue $25,000
7- Desert Inn $100 4th issue $25,000
8-Showboat $1 2nd issue $25,000
9- Flamingo $100 2nd issue $20,000
10- Riviera $5 2nd issue $20,000

The book has several Sands 1st and 2nd issues listed with a high value of $40,000.

If you don't have this book yet I would highly recommend it. It's a wealth of knowledge assembled by the great James Campiglia and Steve Wells. It's the bible of the chip religion.

Re: Most expensive?

What about that dude Stupak who owns the Stratosphere? Wasn't there a chip with his mug shot on it that was considered the most expensive chip ever?

Just as an add on to this, the collection was billed as the "Platinum Collection". It's asking price was $1,000,000.00. I know the collection was in fact sold, if it got asking price I don't know but I am pretty sure it did.
